Fuel Gauge Always Reading Full

Hi guys. Just fitted all my new shiny etb gauges and the fuel gauge always reads full no matter where the arm is set. The fuel tank is the ford one in a superspec

if you have the sierra sender it has 3 connections.

1 fuel level

2 fuel flow (rarely fitted)

3 fuel low.

it sounds like you are connected to 2 or 3.

Gauges show max if not getting a feed from the sender

Hi, if no quick fix then can in the back and fill tank every 100 miles approx.

Is the gauge and denser a matched pair, or is the new gauge able to calibrate to the existing sender? either the range of the sender is higher than the gauge is expecting, or you have connected the sender wire to earth some where. Possibly by connecting up wrong or a short in the wiring.

 

Normally to test a fuel sender gauge you would disconnect the wire from the sender and touch it to Earth, this should make the gauge read full.

 

Some of the etn gauges can be set to read between a different range of resistance values.

modern fuel gauges can work the opposite way to fuel gauges in the past so now minimum resistance is full maximum resistance is empty......
