Unknown sensor.

I’m nee here so I’m sure this will be question one of many! 
thank you in advance

I have recently bought an exmo with a 2.0 pinto and on the drivers side to the rear (bulkhead end) of the engine I have a sensor that’s unplugged, as far as I’m aware the oil pressure sensor is N/S towards the back next to the pcv valve so any ideas what this rogue sensor is please? I can upload a pic tomorrow to clarify location. 

Its next to exhaust manifold about halfway down the block.  
My Haynes says oil pressure but I thought that was N/S??

I attach a photo of a 205 block, exhaust side, there are two holes, the higher (here with plug in) is the coolant drain plug, the lower hole (sensor missing) is for the oil level sensor which was fitted on the Ghia versions of the Sierra. If you still have the Ghia loom complete there will be a plug for the sensor with wiring to take the sensor signal to the "Auxiliary Warning System", this was a swish display just above the gear lever on the dash that had all sort of warning lights, door ajar, washer fluid low, brake pad wear, fuel range ..... etc. I'm guessing that you don't have the AWS, or even the Ghia loom..... If it is the oil level sensor that you are looking at, it will have been left there becase it blocks a hole out of which oil will splash when the engine is running.

Hi thanks for the help. The sensor is located….. as you look at your image you can see a bolt just up and slightly to the left of the lower whole. This is where my rogue sensor is?

I’ve got a feeling this is just a sensor that has been put in to plug the coolant drain as the oil sensor on mine is carb side up and the the rear of the engine.

Just to be clear, in the image, the open hole below the coolant drain plug, is an oil LEVEL sensor position, not pressure. It was fitted on high end Ford models with this engine. The normal level sensor is of course the dipstick.

I’ve used it as an oil drain back from the catch tank, it could also be used as an oil drain from a turbo as it’s just a hole above the sump
