Steering Lock

Last night whilst out for a blast, I took a Left hand turn, Quite fast, And the steering lock engaged half way round the turn.

I managed to free it before the ditch, but I dont know why it happened and i'm not to keen on it happening again.

I intend stripping it tonight and will report back

Has anyone else had this fault?

( 2b, Mountney wheel and boss) :(

Having stripped the steering I found nothing amiss !

I can only assume the pin on the steering lock drops down a fraction under cornering G forces,

I have filed a bit off it, If I turn up at newark you'll know it worked.

I had a similar problem on an Escort; it was a worn ignition switch.

Also I trouble with steering lock not working, It was caused by the steering wheel boss. I filed it and it works well after making sure that relative spacings were correct .

I thought that the plastic lugs on the boss were to cancel the indicater after completing a turn, or at least thats what they did on my Mini (if I remember correctly)

Im taking my steering lock off post SVA, i dont fancy this happenning at all!!! :o

I have enough problems correcting sideways action as it is, i dont fancy trying it when the steering wheel doesnt want to play along! :(
