  1. Evening All Here goes a longshot, but thought it worth a go before i buy a set a wheels just for a socket! As the topic suggests, i've only gone and lost my locking wheel socket for my fox racing wheels, which is making getting the wheels off a bit of a challenge By any minor miracle does anyone have one of these i could borrow, or know of a way to remove the wheels?? If it was road worthy i would take it to my local garage, but its exhaustless at the mo. Unfortunately i cannot really see what type of socket it would be, it is definitely one that fits around the nut rather than into the middle of it. Also if i remember correctly it fits into the normal socket used to remove the other nuts. Thanks Simon
  2. Cheers for the responses! After much contemplation I think i'll give it a miss! Could turn out to be far too much hassle for a price that i think it would easily make on Autotrader! Thanks Simon
  3. Thanks for the responses, a bit mixed so not really reassured, but i think i'll proceed but carfully. I am going to ensure the deposit through Paypal is quite small so if he does reclaim it then it wont be then end of the world. I'll also borrow one of those pens that detect fordged notes. Lets just hope a car full of peoplee don't turn up! Thanks Simon
  4. Hi All If you have a spare few minutes I was after some advice/reassurance I am selling a Smart Roadster and I have a the below email conversations and with all the scams that exist I am after some reassurance that no one else can spot a scam. Basically it is a guy from Ireland who has haggled on the price and phoned to discuss (not common signs of a scam!) . He hasn't seen the car which is a bit weird but there were a lot of photos. He will send a deposit via paypal and i'm insisting on cash on collection, unless bank transfer is safer? Attached are the emails we have exchanged, scroll to the bottom and read up. Can anyone spot anything that may sugeest a scam? Or do you think this is a genuine buyer? Thanks for any advice Simon emails.doc
  5. Thanks guys, bottom end is basically brand new, when i got the engine last year it had been stuck in a colledge so never used Any advice on the head and whats its worth? I see newley recon ones on ebay for £400 but if this went for £300 i think it may be worth while, especially as i am in northampton so can pick it up easily!! Cheers Simon
  6. Hi All Just wondering what your views are on this, basically is it any good and how much would you pay? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/FORD-PINTO-RS2000-PE...1QQcmdZViewItem I am after a new tuned head for my pinto, (standard bottom end), I then am after some better carbs than the 38 DGAS i have at the moment, i noticed these on the GBS website, has anyone got any experience of these? £250 a fair price? http://www.greatbritishsportscars.com/convkit%20018.jpg Thanks for any advice, Simon
  7. Good Evening All Hopefully your all looking forward to playing in the forthcoming snow!!! Found these two on ebay, with my limited knowledge look good to me..........??? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/8992-Ford-Focus-2-0c...1QQcmdZViewItem http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/GSXR-1000-Throttle-B...1QQcmdZViewItem
  8. Evening All Just trying to put together a shopping list for the installation, and have a few questions Whats the Best alternator to fit....longboarder you suggest a few, which is the optimum choice? Carbs - twim 40's/45's or bike, i'm presuming bike a am on a budget. Which ones are best?? Ignition - The above link has ways to make the ecu from a old escort/orion work....is this possible?? or is the extra cost for megasquirt etc.. worth it?? if so which one? 1800 zetec flywheel (from black/silver top) then use all other bits from pinto?? Starter motor from a 1.8/2.0 DOHC?? Sump - From the black top and shorten the steel bit?? Lots of questions i know, and probably a lot more to come........anyone who can add more bits i need would be very welcome!!! Thanks for all the help, hopefully it will be up and ready so i can get to a couple of the shows this year
  9. Thanks all, the diagrams are great, means i can make up these bits beforehand. The 5 days hopefully will mean i can get the pinto out and zetec in place.......as long as I can get it in and 80% done i'll be happy. Then spend some weekends making it run!! If any of you hear of a good deal, 2L blacktop or any tunning parts please let me know. Thanks Simon
  10. Hi Thanks for the feedback, reassured that maybe a scrap yard engine will be ok rather than forking out for a new engine. Just reading http://www.toyne.org.uk/zetec.html link which is great!! Is the Phase 1/2 or 3 zetec easier to fit. At the moment i'm looking for phase 3 unless advised otherwise? Trying to make a list of all the things required so i can have them all ready, so thanks longboarder for the above. Does anybody have a drawing of the custom engine mounts need to fit the original 2B so I can make these up prior?? Thanks Simon
  11. Hi All Booked five days off work in Mid Feb to finally change the engine in my 2B, from a pinto to Zetec. (brand new pinto, well 300 miles old, was used by a college as a demo engine, when i got it last year it had never been fitted to a car. Anyway back to the zetec, looking at spending no more than £1500 but £1000 would be nice. So can anybody help with bargain places to pick up the bits i need, i know RH do a zetec for £750+VAT (but prob 1.6 or 1.8 not the 2L i want) so scrap yard probably best place as seem to go for £350 ish, but then a rebuild is probably recommended!! Happy to stick with standard ecu for now as these seem to be the expensive part! I'm sure there’s lot of experience out there so i would be happy to hear the spec you think i should be able to get for £1000 - £1500 and any good links for places to get the parts from!?? Thanks for any help Simon
  12. Morning All Thanks for the replies, almost certainly going to go for the Zetec as the Duratec is probably not worth the ammount of cash difference to the zetec. I did actual buy the 2.9 V6 cosworth engine to fit but when I got it near the car it looked like a lot of modification would have been needed!! It just looked too big, although i'm sure someone will now tell me it would have fitted, as i've only just sold it!! Regarding the Zetec, i presume the 2.0 black top is the best one to go for? Also say the budget was £2K and i already have the type 9 box. What spec would you expect i could achieve. Will I just be looking at a standard Zetec spec? Thanks for the help Simon
  13. Hi all Well last time i started a post about engine mods it all got a little heated, so i'll try to keep this to a minimum. Ok... the pinto has to go, I am looking for something that will get me too 0 - 60 quickly, not too bothered about top speed, but lots of torque would be nice. No more than £2K although prepared to do lots of work myself!! Thought about the bike engine route, but i fear this is too expensive for the results. Next thought was the Zetec, which is the cheaper option. However as I only want to do this once i'm thinking of going down the Duratec route. Looking to get this in the next few weeks and spend some days/weeks over the winter fitting Question 1 - I am being sensible choosing the duratec arn't I More expensive i'm sure than zetec but better power from standard. Question 2 - I'm sure someone has already fitted one........... does it fit and is there lots of extra work that i might not of thought of Last Question i think - The type 9 i presume is to weak for the hopefully 170bhp. So MT75 is the way forward? Although i seem to remember reading somewhere that this is a right hassle to fit.......but possible?? Thanks for any advice anyone has! Simon
  14. Hi All Hoping to make a new exhaust for my 2B this weekend, however as soon idiot on ebay hasn't delivered the pipe bender i order 4 weeks ago i may struggle If theres anyone around the northampton area that has one that can bend 1.5" tube that wouldn't mind lending it out for a day then please PM me. Otherwise it's waiting another week for me Sorry, would have put this in the wanted section but i'm just in the process of getting my membership renewed!! Thanks Simon

    Fast Road Cam

Hi All Can anyone let me know more info on a fast road cam (white paint) Is this known as anything else as i cannot find any information on google about this. Thanks for any help Simon
  18. Cheers guys! Stevieshood, will give vulcan a call tomorrow to see how much they charge. Turbo, does seemlike a waste of cash, but i really do need some more power for the summer. Hoping to be able to sell the engine after for nearly what i paid which will ensure little cash wasted. If i could do the Zetec in the next couple of months then i would but it all seems like a lot of work!! Kieran, would like to do it myself but i'm sure i would cock it up!! Although does anybody have a pdf or something of vizards?? Anymore advice/help very welcome.
  19. Hi All Well the summer days are nearly upon us and it s time I got my engine up to scratch. Had lots of advice on other posts so thanks for all that help, but one more piece needed to make my mind up. Ok currently have a 2L standard pinto installed. Plan to change to zetec during next winter (would do it this year but i think if i want to get it on the road for April this is too ambitious!) Looking to get my cylinder head sorted to get a bit more power. This is where you guys come in. Spoke to Jondel Racing in Northants who have quoted roughly the below Porting and Polishing £350 Match twin 40 manifold to head £50 Lead free valves £80 Skimming £40 All exc vat So on top of all this i still need vernier pulley @ £50, my twin 40's (withy a view to use on zetec later) @£200 ish, and a decent cam @£150 ish. So £520 ex vat for head work. Then £350 ish without twin 40's. So my question is why not settle for one of these, that look a simular spec??? Complete head, just twin 40's needed i think Bit more needed, but beats the £520+vat quoted for own head work Not sure about this one..........any thoughts? Appreciate any advice. Thanks Simon
  20. Hi All Basically looking to get somework done on my pinto head and am looking for a good machinist around the northampton area. Hopefully someone out there will know a resonable one?! Thanks for any help Simon
  21. Hi One of the many winter projects on my 2B is to make a full fibreglass bonnet and rear wheel arches. Has anyone done this already? or know if anyone makes them?? If someone has already done this then it seems pointless to go through the pain of making new moulds if i could borrow them for some beer money If not then i'll try and do a good job of mine Cheers Simon
  22. Thanks Dan, much welcomed post.........and thanks for bringing it back to the original subject!! Thanks for the offer of the PDF, i'm surei have it somewhere just cant find it!! But Chris Brown is sending me it. Thanks
  23. Well i would just like to say that its opinions that count, and i appriciate everyones input, however i dont think we need to keep having a go at each other....... I have appriciated Micks comments as well as all of yours. If we didnt have different opinions it would be a boring discussion, but i think this has got a bit out of hand, so lets get back to the great debate, as i am sure we have all learned things from this post!! I hope.........
  24. Hi Guys, thanks for the advice everyone..... seems a lot has happened since the last time i looked, if i knew what half of it meant then i would look into it!! However i am sure it has been helpful for all........ Nigel i think your post has got basically what i was looking for with what can be done for what cost......although i will have to look into the whole 60 - 40 -30 thou bit!! Why would you choose a piper 285 cam over a kent fr32?? sorry dont know what the differences are As i have a brand new standard head i suppose it seems silly to buy a new modded on from somewhere, is there a good place to get the like of skimming and polishing done?? that is resonably based, or a website that explains the process? Bike carbs seem to be the way forward with the budget in mind. Although there seems little clarity on what ones would be best, and easiest to fit. Although i'll get the head done and worry about this later. Also exhaust wise......adding a 4 in 1 manifold rather than the standard pinto one, how much extra bhp is this worth. Cheers guys
  25. I agree Mick, whenever i think about engines i always tend to get carried away with ideas, although its deciding what to do for the best. Stick with the pinto, which was brand new.....tune it up a bit, however power will never be huge unless i spend lots. Ideally would get a pre modded head with decent carbs, but prob looking at £600 - £800. And in the end its still a heavy pinto that i would not want forever Zetec/Duratec installation would be nice, but costs of £2K that have been quoted, mean its out of budget Bike engines i dont know much about, although the quick accelaration and sound is probably enough for me to choose this over a zetec or Duratec. Not really sure on costs of this but i think someone said about £1500 which would still be overbudget. But hey if you are going to do it i would like to do it once and then be able to leave it. Anyone know a good link or has anyone done a bike engine for this amount or less? and knows what is involved.
