  1. Hi Pete

    thanks for the advice

I have done allsorts to my exaust including adding baffle plates and the scrub buds and funny y shaped thingy...

the moment of truth will come on Friday afternoon when it gets re-tested...

    heres hoping!!!!

    cheers

    Chris

  2. Hi Mate

I made a frame out of l shaped mild steel that secured to the bottom chassis rails and a simmilar frame for the top with two metal bars running down the front to connect the two frames and two L shaped brackets on the back to secure it to the wood pannel.

The SVA man was quite happy with that and it hasn't moved yet.

It saves taking the risk of drilling the flanges

    cheers

    Chris

  3. Hi HTH

At both ends the baffle plates are solid and the pipes are perforated and not blocked at the ends.

In a normal exhaust I believe the pipes are blocked and the baffle plates are perforated ......

if this is the case will perforating the baffle plates and blocking the ends of the pipes create the desired effect????

    cheers

    Chris

  4. Hi Folks

since failing my first sva due to noise levels being too high I have opened my exaust silencer to re-pack it

As the picture shows below there are two baffles , one at eather end of the silencer and a void in the middle.

I have re-packed the baffles with some material I got from merlin motorsport , but it has not reduced the noise!!!

does anybody know if you can re-pack the centre void and will this affect the engine?

    cheers

  6. Hi graham

I've fitted cobra monaco seats so the drivers mirror is almost redundant due to the height of the seat backs.....

as for the handbrake ... I don't personaly have a problem but the nice man from the sva wants it moved so I'll have to move it

    cheers

    Chris

  7. Hi Guy

before the examiner did the test he told me that he had never passed a mild steel exaust first time.

He then asked me to rev up to 4200 rpm!!!!

I didn't use the noise reducer however I will be re-packing the silencer and using it on the re-test

    cheers

    Chris

  8. I've put 195 50/ 15 on the front and 205 / 50 / 15 on the back all with standard arches and it was not a problem for thwe sva test earlier this week.

    cheers

    Chris

  9. Well after 12 months of building I had the privalage of visiting gosforth in Newcastle for my SVA.

This was my second appointment for my first test as the prop shaft brock on the first attempt

    Fail points where as follows

    1. needed a few standard nuts replacing with nylocks

    2. a little bit of tidying up on the wiring

    3. the fuel return hose was not marked as "fuel hose"

    4. nuts on front shocks not radiused

    5. the front indicators where 2cm too low

    6. the side repeaters supplied from RHE where not radiused

    7. the rear wheel arches needed to be extended at the front to cover the tyre

    8. the tunnel top mounted handbrake was too far back

    9. the passenger mirror was obstructed by the windscreen pillar

10 . the old noise test came in at 106 Db at 4200 rpm

All in all the examiner was a realy good bloke . he explained everything he was doing and was very helpfull in how to fix the bits that he had failed.

all in all I was quite pleased with the result and all being well I'll have them sorted in a few weeks .....

the only one that bothers me is the noise test. i know I'll have to repack the silencer , shove some metal scrub buds up the exaust with the y shaped piece inserted .... the only thing is I can't retest the noise levels without a noise metre

Any one in the north east got one I can lend in a few weeks time????

A big thanks goes out to several members who have spent time helping me with bits and bobs including Ken from Newcastle , Bob and his son from Spenymoor and Kevin from Darlo

    cheers

    Chris

  10. Hi Greg

A simmilar thing happened to me when I was taking my hood to its SVA.....

I had done about 10 miles and the universal jount on the gear box end of the prop shaft came apart!!!!!!! :boohoo:

After I cut a hole in the floor to get access to it it seems like one of the circlips failed

Luckily I was pulling away from a roundabout so I was not doing any speed....

I rang RHE and replacement was with me the next day. Apparently the prop shafts will do 100k with no problems according to richard

Just got to wait until 1st June for my next SVA test appointment

    :gdit:

  11. Hi Ian

I.ve had a look through my controls and I can't see any options to update my status.....

Is it anything to do with the registration being disabled on the main screen????? :(

anyway back to my original question

Anybody know whats going on in the NORTH EAST ?????

  12. Hi Guys...

I have been a member now since October , however there seems to be a destinct lack of activity in terms of events , meet ups etc in the North East.

I've only been able to contact one other member through a friend at work who has been a great help..

If there are any other 2b builders / owners in the North East and know of any meet ups etc could you please send me the details

    cheers

    Chris

  13. Hi Ian

    I've got a 2003 2B plus....

I scrapped the Viscous fan due to the lack of space between the engine and the front crossmember..... plus I got an electric one with the kit

I have fitted the electric one infront of the rad however I have had to take a piece out of the bottom of the nosecone so it would fit over

I've no idea how much space there is on the 3a.....

    cheers

    Chris

  14. Hi Mate

The colman brass radiator from RHE is the same as an old transit radiator.

I bust mine and sent it for a re-core under the asumption it was a cortina . The guy phoned me back to say it was a transit as it has bigger header tanks and its apparently a bigger core ....... more money!!! :gdit:

You might want to look in the scrappies....

It does work well once fitted :)

  15. Hi Guys& Gals

I have a little problem with my fuel pump....

I aquired a 2.0 efi donor and have converted the engine to a weber twin choke carb.

I have fitted the standard fuel pump , however in fitting I noticed that the shaft on the pump seems too short to connect with the push rod to make it work.

Do I need a different pump ? is an electric one the solution and if it is which one will do the Job?

I've seen a couple in the vehicle wiring products catalogue , however I don't know if they are suitable

    Any advice will be great

    cheers

    Chris
