    Cooling System

I am now finishing off the cooling system on my zetec engine and as i am using the existing fittings i have used the large connections to supply a heater and expansion tank .There is also a thin black pipe coming out of the housing. Do i just cap this off somehow or does it have a purpose which i have missed? Thanks Disco
  2. Can anyone recommend the best method and parts needed to fit demist to the car. As i have fitted the windscreen i now realise that i have to have demist for the iva test. Regards Disco
  3. Hi, I am fitting a grp dash as supplied by GBSC and i am trying to decide where to fit the guages. Does anyone know whether the iva test requires the speedo to be visible behind the steering wheel? I would like to fit the speedo central and have the guages to the left and right is this ok? Regards Disco
  4. I am progressing slowly with my project wide body zetec and the wiring is slowly being done. I have a few questions from different places in the wiring loom . Can anybody shed any light on the following. 1/ Iam using an old spec GBSC wiring loom with 3 wires going to the alternator 2 brown and one other. Can i just use spade connectors or can i source the proper socket for the alternator ? 2/ Do i have to source the wiring from the coil pack/crank sensor/ecu or does this wiring come with an ecu if for example i purchase an Emerald system? 3/ What is the best route to take the wiring from the front wing repeater as it needs to be attatched to the suspension and pass through the cars sides to the wiring loom? Hope you can find time to assist Regards Chris D
  5. I am now at the point where i need to source the ecu and wiring and need some advice as to what ,where and when. I am building a zero zetec with an engine supplied by GBSC i have now fitted their new plenum chamber to the 16v 2 ltr engine and now need to find the wiring to all of the sensors and the ecu to drive it. I am presuming i need to source a suitable ford mondeo in order to get the right parts. Can anyone give me guidance as to the best mondeo to get the parts from (i.e. year of manufacture and model) or if there are better alternatives ( cheaper alternative) and where i can get them? Hope you can spare me some time for advice. Regards Disco
  6. Hi all, My next challenge is to fit the nose cone to my wide body zetec. Does the nose cone get fitted to the chassis via the two loops on the top chassis rail ? Do i need to secure it on ther bottom as well? I have the front indicators kit from GBSC which have two u shaped indicator extensions, how and where do these fit? Hope you can help Disco
  7. Thanks for the advice i shall try that Disco
  8. I have at last fitted the engine and gearbox(zetec and type 9 gearbox)and have come to fit the clutch cable. My problem is at the gearbox end. I need to know whether i have to cut a channel in the big loop on the gearbox so i can thread the new cable through it. I presume this is the case as the new cable has two nuts on the end to be adjusted for tension. I just need some guidance as to whether this is correct before i get the angle grinder out !!!!! Thanks Disco

    Drive Shaft

I Have fitted the engine and type 9 gearbox and i have a sierra driveshaft What parts of the driveshaft do i need to use and how? Hope you can help Chris D
  10. Yes i am building a wide bodied zero. Looking at the throttle body it seems like it could wrap arounD the diagonal bar, i suppose that i will need to have a better look at it. This will be this weeks project Chris D
  11. With guidance on my last problem i was able to purchase and fit the stater motor to the engine gearbox assembly and at long last i borrowed an engine lift and fitted the assembly yesterday. During the fitting it became obvious that i had to remove the oil filter as it would foul the steering shaft when the engine was in place and i also removed the injectors and throttle body(all black plastic )from the engine so the engine would fit. I am building a wide body Zetec and i presume that there is little difference in size from a normal car around the engine compartment. Now looking at it this morning i realise that i can purchase a shorter oil filter but i am unsure as to whether the Zetec throttle body assembly as fitted to the engine when delivered will fit back on the car as the diagonal bar on the frame is where the throttle body should be. My instincts tell me that i have to fit a different throttle body which clears the frame bar or am i wrong and have to make some modifications somewhere in order to get it to fit. Your help would be greatly appreciated Chris D
  12. I have a zetec engine to fit and have not decided which throttle bodies to fit yet . I have purchased a facet fuel pump from GBSC which would suit a road going vehicle which i am building. Does the use of two styles of pump along with the swirl pot suit track cars or is it a requirement for the engine? I am obviously a bit confused as to the requirements. Disco
  13. Could anyone give me some guidance as to where the best place is to fit the fuel pump. Thanks Disco

    Starter Motor

Can anyone point me in the right direction. I have purchased a zero zetec kit and am at the stage of fitting the engine and gearbox to the chassis. My first question is where on the engine 2.0 ltr zetec does the stater fit ( i believe i need a lucas lrs 707)The reason i ask this is that i mated the type 9 gearbox to the engine which fits ok but the place where the starter fitted on the sierra is covered by metal work on the engine. I think that the starter fits low down on the manifold side according to gbsc pictures so have i got the wrong shape bell housing or is there another explanation. The gearbox is from a 2.0 ltr granada of the right age.( or so i believe. Many thanks Disco

    Engine Parts

Hello all, I have started a GBS zero this spring and i am just about to fit the engine and gearbox. The next stage for me will be sourcing the correct starter motor, alternator and Engine management system. Now i know i can buy new from kitspares but i would like to source the items from a donor car. Now i know that the fitting of the ,starter motor and alternator should be straight forward. My concern is the Ecu unit and how to configure it. Can anyone share their knowledge with me i would be very grateful. Many Thanks Disco
