  1. I have a mk2 with a 2.0ltr pinto on dellorto 40s.Every time i stop the engine when its hot

there's a slight backfire.I'm sure the timing is ok the carbs are not 100% set up yet,but it

did this even with the dgav.

    Any ideas?

    Richard

  2. I want to change from vac to non vac dizzy. The non vac one has three spade plug on the side

the vac one has two spade plug.So can anyone tell me what i have to do.

    Cheers

    Richard

  3. Between the carbs there is an adjuster that allows the carbs to "pull" the same, don't mix that up with the two idle adjusters.

You must get them balanced first then set the tickover.

Have a read here it is a weber link but the sme principals apply.

    HTHs

Had a good read on that website.Cheers Ian

  4. There's something not right.Front carb is sucking more than back and if you listen with tube down

each trumpet the air flow is stronger in front carb. What am i doing wrong?

  5. I have fitted twin dhla 40s and have the dizzy vac blanked off.It runs not bad at speed however slow running not

    so good.

I've heard that blanking off the vac can be a hit or a miss.I have a non vac dizzy but the problem is it looks as if

its three wire and the vac dizzy thats fitted on the car is two wire. What do i do.The dizzys are bosch early electronic.

    Richard

John, the none vac distributor that i want to fit has a block connector on the side with three spades

the female end that plugs in to that i don't have

Cheers Stuart, kinda thought thats what it was.Good luck with the rebuild

  8. Someing i've always wonderd. To get from a newbie builder to a wheelie good builder, does one have to show good mechanical

experince in the topics they post or is it the number of topics they've posted

  9. Are you trying to fit the seats complete with runners/subframe? Most find that the seats have to be bolted direct to the floor

I forgot to say that i had bolted them straight to the floor. What i've done is raised the front and reduced some of the padding.

It has lowerd me nearly 4 inches belive it or not.

  10. I've just bought a pair of roadster 7 seats for my mk2.After fitting the drivers seat and climb in,i find i'm looking over the windscreen.

I'm now moding the seats a bit.I bought the seats from gbs(kit parts direct)and think they improve the car no end My problem is i'm

six foot three tall.Another problem is the seat manufacturers sizes never have the height of the bit you sit on in the spec.

Just wondered if anyone has hade this problem before and also to tall guys and gals out there to think about this.

    Happy new year everybody

  11. I have noticed the lightweight boys are having a few worrys about sva.

Well,in 2004 i finished building a mk2 whitch was never designed to pass

sva.During the build i kept in touch with my sva centre(bridge of don

aberdeenshire)and they were very helpful about what i needed to do.

With the result my passed second time with minor problems on the first

    ie: edges etc

    Goodluck

  12. Two questions gents

1 why does my engine(2ltr pinto) keep oiling up a plug?

2 there are two mixture screws on my carb(38 dgas)one is tight to the cam cover

how do you ajust it?Looking forward to your answers

    cheers Richard

  13. anyone got a non vac bosch dizzy for 2.0 pinto.I've been told that vacum advance is a bad idea with 40's

Can't find a post points early electronic dizzy on ebay or anywhere.

  14. Rolling roads are like hens teeth in my part of the world.Anyone know the basic set up.

I remember when i was a kid watching guys set them up with a piece hose in their ear, putting

the other end down each barrel till they sounded the same. That was the last time i was involved

    with these carbs.

  15. The first engine in my car was a 1.6.When i first went for a run it was slugish and slow.Turned out it was ignition timing, when corrected it made quite a difirence, not as much as a 2L though

    Richard

  16. hey ya every1. i have a 1.6 pinto engine in the i jus bought but i think its rather sluggish,

 iv checked the regular things such as is it firing on on cyclinders which it is. does anyone have any idea wot it mite be, im jus new to this whole game and bought this car, it is in ok condition but no where near the standard of the ones i see on here.

Any help would be gladly received

  17. Hope the attached pics help...

You have to tighten the nuts to make the rod pull the arm up first.

Then when the throttle opens the spring can push it back down.

BUG**ER Ive named the pics the wrong way round.

There is a gap between the locknut & the arm when the throttle is OPEN.

  18. Thanks Nigel, had to read your replay a couple of times to understand it.What is actually happening is the rods are moving up and down but not moving the pump levers.Am right in saying then that i will have to ajust nuts on the bottom of the rods.By the way the springs are there.

Looking forward to your replay and ahappy new year.

  19. The accelerator pump diaphragm is in a flat relaxed position when the throttles are closed with the pump chamber full of fuel. The lock nut on the pump rod supports the pump lever and determines the position of the diaphragm. When the throttle is opened the pump rod moves down through the pump lever. The lock nut on the rod is thus pushed down below the lever end. The rod spring above the pump lever 'free end' then forces the lever down which being pivoted in the chamber cover and having a big mechanical advantage over the 'chamber end' of the lever puts upward pressure on the diaphragm, pressurising the petrol in the pump chamber. This pressure forces the inlet valve ball closed, and the only route left for the petrol in the pump chamber is through the pump jet into the choke to provide acceleration enrichment. The volume of extra petrol 'injected' depends on the lever stroke, the position of the lock nut on the pump rod giving an adjustable starting position for the pump stroke and the degree to which the throttle is opened determining the end position of the pump stroke. The flow rate of the extra petrol and also the duration of the enrichment is dependant on the size of the accelerator pump jet. (It's also dependant on the mechanical advantage of the pump lever and the relative strengths of the rod spring and the diaphragm return spring but these give a fixed pressure and are not adjustable) The overall result is that you can alter the rate and duration of the enrichment the DHLA's give you on opening the throttles and the carb will automatically adjust for the degree of throttle opening. Clever these Italians.

It sounds as if you might not have the rod springs in place. These should be fitted on the pump rods between the mechanism on the butterfly spindle and the pump lever end, with the lock nut being fitted below the pump lever.

  20. I am fitting a pair of dhla 40's to my RH,and i have some consern about the operation of the accelor pumps. When you operate the throttle lever there are conecting rods which go down to the pump levers. The rods move down the way,but in order to operate the pumps the pump levers have to move up the way, what actually happens is,the rods slide up and down through the holes that conect them to the pump levers
