1.8 Zetec, Any Good?

I've been looking at possibly changing to a zetec engine with bike carbs etc, but have read on several sites that the 1.8 is favoured over the 2.0 as it revs quicker, a lot cheaper, easier to get hold of, and needs less doing to it in order to fit the hood chassis.

What are you thoughts? I don't want an out and out racing car, just a reliable engine that is easy to maintain, and a replacement for my 2.0 pinto. I am looking at selling the pinto to fund the zetec with bike carbs/throttle bodies, megajolt or whatever it is, so don't want to spend huge bucks modifying everything.

Regards

A lot of the zetec sites on the interwebby were written in the early days of zetecs when 2.0l engines were expensive and difficult to find. The revs better thing was quoted widely to try to justify fitting the smaller engine. These days 2.0L blacktops are plentifull and cheap.

Cost wise you would probably fork out for a 1.8 flywheel for your 2.0L blacktop but otherwise there is no difference. If fitting a 2.0L silvertop you would want to add a 1.8 escort water pump as well. So my personal opinion would be go for the 2.0L every time.

Did you build this all yourself, i.e. the engine, carbs etc? If so then I will defo pick your brains. 151 bhp is that the standard engine, or have you played with it?

Thanks
