Oh & personally.... I don't see anything wrong with... I wouldn't use push fit on one side of diff & lobro on the other for instance but having differing but matched pairs top & bottom shouldn't be a problem, they can't go anywhere!!

Hence, this means that, if i want to use the ZF, i am down to only Dan's #3 choice :

#3. Get some push-in style shafts, and use them in their entirety, w/ adapters for disc brakes.

Which is exactly the point of this thread...ie, that i need the push-in shafts!!! ;-)

 Well it's been kept nice & live... in our timezone anyway!!

Do you need the rear hubs as well?? What about the braking system?

Have a measure up of your kit, as I say some are different & if anyone has stuff kicking around you'll want to make sure it's going to fit before splashing out 100 bucks on postage...

In terms of "mix & matching" (option #2), if the locostbuilder post is correct about the fact that both the hub joint *and* the diff joint are spring loaded, then he would be correct in saying that changing one to lobro would decrease the spring retaining force. I have no idea how much difference it would make...

Dan, in terms of measuring up the stuff, it appears that both the US merkur stuff and the UK sierra stuff are 26 spline x 1 1/16. At least that is what the lobro flange i have appears to be, and it goes into my ZF diff just fine (though not retained!!! ;-).

Thanks, -sm

There you go... as for the driveshaft being held in on springs both ends.... bullsh*t!

To get the bottom half out you have to unbolt the hub nut! (or unbolt the carrier & feed the whole lot through is easier when just changing diff...)

No way it can go anywhere regardless of what joints you have at each end in my opinion...

Can anyone help me out w/ the push-in shafts...someone must have switched to the lobro, and have the push-in's laying around!!!

Do i need to sweeten the deal?? Hmmm. Money? No problem. Let me know the price.

Cheers, -sm ;-)

BTTT. No one has the push style drive axles? Anyone know of a good source for them (tried the uk scrappies, and no luck)? Would rather get them from a hoodie, since the quality would probably be better.

There is a company that does complete rebuilt rear axles & components that seem to go to a lot of the shows... Can't remember their name.

They would sell you reconditioned, powder coated driveshafts with new joints & boots I'm sure... Someone must know who I'm talking about.

You can find them in Which Kit or Total Kit car, go to a specialist mag shop or one of the huge bookshops, you can get copies of the UK mags fairly easily down here in LA....

Yes someone has done it they way round your intending and he hasnt had any problems for nearly a year now, he just took off the INNER CV joint on a drum-brake shaft and fit a disk-brake CV to the shaft, he wanted an lsd but to retain the drums.

how much would postage be to the US?
