Flexi Pipes To Reservoir

still having trouble sorting out flexi pipes from master cylinder to reservoir on a

superspec.. have bought flexi brake hose from burtons removed lip of the bottom

of reservoir outlets so the flexi pipe slides over the top and is held with jubilee

clips.

This end is fine found that microbore copper pipe fitted nice in the other end and

with a 90 bend and a straight coupler seemed to be a tight fight in reservoir..

made a bracket to hold pipes firm in master cylinder, but left it over night and

the fluid has leaked..

what size is the copper pipe other people have used ??

Hi Gavin,

I found that 12mm copper gas pipe fitted best in the master cylinder end. I used 10mm microbore for the rest. I ended up soldering the 10mm inside the 12mm as you can see in the pics below.

Gavin - I suggest that instead of jubilee clips, you try the "fuel pipe" type. They are known for being nice and round when tightened, as small jubilees have a habit of producing a flat spot causing leaks, which is why Mr SVA doesn't like seeing jubilees on fuel pipes.

I thought I had all this sorted in my head and reading this has made me realise I have no idea what I'm doing.

I just have 12mm pipe that I thought just sits in the master cylinder and flexi pipes join these to the reservoir... Is this completely wrong?!

we did try that at first...

but it leaked from the flexi pipe on the 12mm copper and from the flexi at the

reservoir.. turned out the flexi pipe was not brake fluid compatible.. then when

we changed the flexi decided to over engineer the copper and go for the

microbore as the solder joint has a ridge and thought this looked more like the

original on the reservoir, but obviously wrong.

changing back to 12mm this weekend but will keep bracket to hold copper pipes

in as dont like the thought of them working there way out on a track somewhere..

I have used 12mm from the master cylinder into the engine bay. I then soldered a 12mm to 8mm adaptor on the end and forced the 7mm id flexi over the 8mm end. I've had no problems with leakage in over a year.

got 12mm today managed to get 10mm microbore inside it and solder it

then solderd a 90 degree bend and a bit more microbore to allow the flexi pipes

to slide over.. great all done..

except it still leaks from the master cylinder where the 12mm goes in..

got the hump now..

managed to find these

these screw into the origanal rubber seals and allow the flexi pipes to be

connected

banjo fitting £25 and straight fitting £8.50 i like the idea if the banjo as it gives

the right angle for the flexi pipe..

have to order them up and give it a go..

will let you know how it goes

Finally managed to sort out reservoir pipes..

we used a couple of banjos from Burtons

and a very nice man with a lathe who made up some nice ally "thingies" that push

into the mater cylinder and have a 7/16 thread for the banjo

and a new reservoir from C.B.S.

All looks very complicated

My solution a compression 12 top 15 mm available B&Q

Then 15 mm pipe work rigid and very durable.

The Compression fitting holds the 12mm from B&Q gas section, into the master cylinder 100%, have pressure tested air and fluid to 30 psi no leaks.

The final fitting to the resovoir is 15mm copper to flexible to bottle two jub clips and only 10mm of pipe again pressue tested no leaks.

If you want pictures let ne know.

Tony..

 your fitting look excellent ,is your flexible hose ok make sure you get some sort of doccument of its compatability with brake fluid for the SVA man I got mine from Merlin Motorsport with the spec sheet from the manufacturer.
