Xe Redtop Ignition

Hi Guys,

I have an XE engine & I'm getting round to finishing the installation in my 2B.

I have fitted an 8V dizzy & I need HT ignition leads.

Halfrauds want £49.99 for an Astra GTE set!!!!

They seem to have a very long plug cap to reach down thru the cam cover.

Is that really necessary?

What has anyone else used.......at more of a Hoody price!!!

Ta Bob.

£50 is cheap. I'll bet that they aren't the thick type either, you'll be looking at around £100 for a Decent set.

Yes, you do need the extral long plug caps, each plug is down a deep well!

Dunno if this is any help, but the Sierra 8v DOHC engine has long plugs on its sprk plug leads that you might be able to use, if the leads themselves are the correct length. Take some measurements of the lengths you require, let me know and I'll compare them to the ones on my car. If they're a good enough match, you can get them from a scrappie for not much cash.

They are completely different animals John, the vauxhall ones must be approx 4" long, and right-angled at the top, as they fit under a cover. They also "seal" in the plug hole around the top.

What, you mean like this?

They won't seal and he might have trouble getting the cover on, but if he just wants a quick fix and he can get hold of a set for peanuts they may be worth a try.

It's just an idea... probably one of my stoopid ones...

Thanks again guys you just got me thinking.....

Redtops are like rocking horse poo down here now, but there are a

few Cavalier/Vectras in my local scrappy.

If they have the Ecotec engine, wont the lleads be similar to the redtop?

I just wish Id asked about the leads when I bought the engine.

Never mind, I got the alt, starter, & a few other bits.

Nearly there; almost; soon.....,

When i did mine i used my original Pinto leads. You just need to uncrimp the plug cap and replace them with the VX caps. So go to the scrappies and obtain some VX leads and have a go.
