which incorporates a mechanical part that acts upon a system used to control the vehicle (eg steering system)

-------i. cannot be activated while the engine is running

-------ii. does not allow the engine to be started before the device has been deactivated

-------iii. has an actuation which is a distinct and separate from that of stopping the engine

You can't guess that your system will pass SVA IMHO it will fail.

Do yourself a favour and use the tried and tested column mounted mechanical and electronic system that comes with the car, modify afterwards.

Another point if you mount the push button and toggle switch on the tunnel then the dreaded 100mm sphere could contact the toggle switch and fail you on that as well.

As for Yokel why are you building a Ford based kit if you hate them so much?

I think I've been swayed.

I will use the steering column switch until after the SVA.

I was hoping not to cut a hole in the new cowl, but after the replys, it seems to be the easiest option.

And WOW, I didn't realise some people were so passionate.

Thanks for all the advice

Try finding a decent looking 7 that's not based on a ford? I'm trying to build something with the minimum input from main stream car makers, be it ford or others, so I have to use their parts where expense prevents using my own bit's, but I figure I can make the smaller fittings myself. Apologies to all whom I offended with my view of fords, they have many fans, it's just not for me.

I can't say I'm a great fan of fords. Haven't owned one since a I bought a new Mk 3 Capri (my last brand new car) but they have built over the last 30 years thousands of escorts, cortinas, capris and sierras which have made kit car building practical on the current scale and even possible on a single donor basis. Sure it's possible to source or make quite a lot of stuff but to keep costs low Uncle Henry is without rival. I would hate to try to build a kit that contained no ford parts at all. So much easier with a dead sierra in the front garden.
