Wiring Relays

Hi,

The relays used in the image below are 4 pin and I have 5 pin ones.

Will these work the same if I just omit the centre pin?

Longboarder will be along with some diagrams soon i am sure, i did copy his diagrams but have them on another computer.

 

You need to make sure the 5 pin relays just switch 2 pins to power and omit using one of them.

There are relays that switch power, i.e 1 pin +12V when relay switched it changes to the other pin.

you want to check with a volt meter what type of relay you have.

OK if the pins are 85, 86, 30 and either of the two if they are both labelled 87, either of the two if 87 and 87B, or just using the 87 pin of an 87 and 87A relay. The 87A is 'on' if the relay is 'off'.

Ok i have 85, 86, 30, 87 and 87a is in the middle.

So I just forget about the 87a ?

If 87 is connected to supply when relay is on and 87A is connected when relay is off, then it is a changeover relay and you only need one relay.

Connect 87 Ato dip, 87 to main and when the relay is energised you are on high beam. Hope it helps, Jim.
