Hi,

you could probably use the engine, seats, switches and wiring with a bit of a chop around but you won't be able to use any of the major mechanical components. The gearbox (mtx75 i think) is a front wheel drive unit and hence the driveshafts are for that gearbox. The hubs will need a drive shaft through to hold the bearing unless you chopped teh drive shaft off at the cv joint, although the hub itself is probably no use as i think it uses a pinch bolt on the bottom balljoint which is probably not strong enough to use the way the hub is used in a kit. None of the rear will be any use as it has no driveshafts etc.

If you have one its probably worth using some bits but i wouldnt bother buying one specifically.

You may find more and more kits going mid engined, as rwds run out, as you can then just plonk the entire engine and gearbox at the back such as the cyclone or gtm libra. but anything front engined/rwd is going to need most of the mechanicals from a rwd car.

to achieve iva you will need to use a rear wheel donor .]

mondeo is front wheel drive it wont work !

you could add a later engine to your v5 prior to starting your build .

ie a zetec of some sort .

for provinence

but you will need a sierra for the main build .

Thanks for the advice only asking coz i seen a cheap mondeo.

Been looking at sierras, but can you use a 4x4 as a donor -gearbox etc?

I've got a zetec engine , will the gearbox fit straight on or is it best to stick to a 2wd car?

Can i use a diesel as a donor car?

Whats the difference between a type 9 box and mt 75?

Sorry for all the basic questions but i feel out of my depth now i havent started building yet!!

A 4x4 sierra has a limited slip diff, 3.6 on the V6, 3.9 on the 2.0L DOHC, if its a 2.0L DOHC I need the diff if you don't use it.

You will not be able to use the 4X4 box.

You can use a diesel as a donor but the diff will be too long (ratio) and the V5 will say the wrong fuel type if you dont fit the engine.

Type 9 box is smaller and reverse is top left, MT75 bottom right.

The Type 9 and MT75 will bolt straight on to any Ford straight 4 engine from Crossflow to Zetec.

The V6 box and bellhousing has a longer inputshaft and different bellhousing bolt pattern, can be made to fit but needs special spacer, straight 4 bellhousing and a mix of ford parts.

Simple way to proceed is to find a good 2WD Sierra and fit all the bits from that, upgrade once you have got the car on the road.
