What engines (Apart from the OHC Pinto) can be installed in a 2B?

I am hoping to be able to install the 1.8 Ford Zetec.

What problems am I likely to come up against ?

Any help would be greatfully received.

Hi Mathew,

Rover 3½ltr V8, Toyota 1600cc, Cosworth, Vauxhall 2ltr 16v, Suffolk Punch, the list goes on. Do a sirch on any of thoes and you'll get a lot more info.

One of the main problems, apart from the electrics is fitting other things in round them like the brake servo ect.

Take a look at THIS for a good idea of how to fit the Vauxhall.

It's an old side vavle engine used for driving cylinder lawn mowers (and go-carts), probably a bit under powerd for a hood but it does have it's own auto clutch and the ignition's symple :)

Hi

Zetec is possible, I just got mine running. However here is a quick list of the issues involved in installing one.

Gearbox moved forward by 5"(not essential but will make inducion arrangement easier)

Extend propshaft

Gearstick extension

Engine mounts

Inlet

Exhaust

Alternator

fanbelt

clutch

Sump (possibly dependant on ride height of car and fitment of sumpguard)

waterrail(not a problem if engine is moved froward)

I can't think of anything else major, it may sound like alot of work but is worth every minute of it (or should I say days, weeks, months?)

Ahhh, I am enlightened. If you could use one of those to power a hood, how about a zetec powered lawn mower?

don't know anything about fitting the K-series

For my inlet I used throttle bodies from a yamaha r6 (38mm) and made a manifold to clamp them close to the cylinder head.

The problem is with clearance around the brakes if you want to keep the servo. I am not sure whether carbs would fit without modification to the brakes.

What about keeping the EfI system from the Zetec, do you think that would work/fit ok?

don't think so the manifold drops quite low and there isn't much clearance for the steering shaft.

Don't know about any others such as for a 1.8 escort, there are some that come over the top of the engine which possibly could be modified.

I think it was a Dare TGS at one of the shows were showing a zetec with a steel inlet manifold which was very neet and compact and the chap on the stand said it worked well but then I supose he would.

No, no-one up here has, All the time that I've surfed the 'net, I've only ever found one person who had fitted one, and that was in an Exmo. He had megga alterations to do so that it would go in.

I've found his web site Here

If you're thinking about a 'K' series, check out Dave Andrews site on tuning these engines.

They're a bit suspect on the cylinder head gasket, those engines. They go well when they're right, but all the ones that I've seen, that get 'some stick' have problems with the head gaskets.

Check this out
