I Need Help!

Hi Guys. Some will know i am currently building a pinto zero. All was going well or so i thought. I am using a premier wiring loom and i have the following issues:

 

1 - rear lights always on.

2 - Hazards work but not indicators

3 - front lights and flasher do no work.

 

Basically, before i connected up the battery i continuity tested the lights and indicators. No issues from what i can tell. Hooked up the battery and nothing, just the rear lights on permanently.

 

I am using the standard sierra BG83 stalks and have checked the wiring 4 times, just in case i missed something. I took the stalks off the column to check the pin numbers but still no joy. Premier wiring guy recons the switches are broken but just want to check i am not missing something first.

 

I have wired up the stalks as per below

I have wired up the relays as follows:

 

Main Beam - White to 87, Red/white to 30 Brown/white to 86 and brown to 85

Dip beam - Same but with Yellow tags

Flasher - Already had 3 wires in relay holder.

 

I have checked all the earths and these are good, and also shortcut the earths from the headlight to battery negative to check earth was good. Still no joy.

 

Is there a way to check if the stalks are broken? or can someone see an issue with my wiring.

what forum post did that chart come from - are you sure that's for the Premier loom and not Vicky Green?

 

I got a blue sheet with my Premier loom which said which wire went where and it all worked fine - my switch was BG87 though. I've just had a look at the chart and for the BG83 switch the wiring should be as follows:

 

Indicator / Dip Switch Small Connector

 

Pin 15 goes to BLACK (EARTH) on Premier harness

Pin 56A goes to BROWN/WHITE (MAIN BEAM RELAY)

Pin 56B goes to BROWN/YELLOW (DIP BEAM RELAY)

Pin 56 goes to BROWN/BLACK (EARTH FEED 56 ON OTHER STALK)

 

Indicator / Dip Switch Big Connector

 

Pin 54 goes to BLACK/RED (SWITCHED +VE SUPPLY)

Pin R goes to BLACK/GREEN (RH INDICATORS)

Pin H30 goes to RED/BLUE (PERMANENT +VE)

Pin 49 goes to BLACK/YELLOW (FLASHER RELAY)

Pin L goes to BLACK/WHITE (LH INDICATORS)

Pin 49A goes to WHITE BLACK (FLASHER RELAY)

You can get a problem with the sierra hazzard switch basically i had an intermittent fault with my indicators for yrs where they did not work 1 min and did the next. It was caused by the hazard switch if i nudge it left they work again if i nudge it right they don't hazzards work either way....

I have the laminated sheet that Premier sent and the above matches my sheet and is how i have wired it up. Any idea on how to test if the stalks are working correctly?

That should have read

 

Pin 15 goes to BLACK (HLAMP FLASH) on Premier harness

Pin 56A goes to BROWN/WHITE (MAIN BEAM RELAY)

Pin 56B goes to BROWN/YELLOW (DIP BEAM RELAY)

Pin 56 goes to BROWN/BLACK (+VE FEED FROM 56 ON OTHER STALK)

and

 

Pin 54 goes to BLACK/RED (SWITCHED +VE SUPPLY)

Pin R goes to BLACK/GREEN (RH INDICATORS)

Pin H30 goes to RED/BLUE (PERMANENT +VE)

Pin 49 goes to BLACK/YELLOW (FLASHER RELAY INPUT)

Pin L goes to BLACK/WHITE (LH INDICATORS)

Pin 49A goes to WHITE BLACK (FLASHER RELAY OUTPUT)

 

Armed with this you could check the continuity of the switches if you disconnect all the connectors and use a tester to test out the pairs of connections for each switch operation

 

e.g

 

Left or Right indicator operated - pins 54 and 49 connected

Left indicator operated - pins 49A and L connected

Right indicator operated - Pins 49A and R connected

Dip Beam on on - pins 56 and 56B connected

Main Beam on - pins 56 and 56A connected

Side Lights on - pins 30 and 58 connected

 

etc.

 

Suggest removing switches from the column to make identifying the pins and getting to them a bit easier

 

must learn to type faster.
