Track Rod Ends

If it's an Escort steering rack (which it is) then it will use Escort Mk2 track rod ends. I got my pair from my local motor factors for £5.50 the pair brand new. I then ordered the lock nuts from Old Ford Autos at £1.54 each . http://www.oldfordautos.co.uk/phdi/p1.nsf/supppages/oldford?opendocument&part=9

Simples, cheaper than £20 from other sources.

I've opened a can of worms. Just rang GBS and they say that the track rod ends are the same for Escort/ Sierra. The ones they sell are Sierra ones. The ones I bought are Escort Mk2 and they screw on perfectly to the rack along with the Escort half lock nuts. The end that goes to the upright seems to fit okay. All very confusing. What is the difference?

Looks like escort / or sierra will do then if GBS say they are the same :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol:

I asked the same question when I needed some and bought what was recomended by other Zero builders

Just found a thread on Locost bulders saying that there are two different tapers. The ones I have seems to be RS2000 which are straight TRE as oppossed to Sierra ones that are bent. Mine screw on okay. I would imagine that the taper bit is the key to making sure they fit. How do I tell if the taper is the correct one?

Lool, Huge debate going on. I am sorry for starting this thread. :clapping:

Why :drinks::friends:

It's helped 2 people out

1 that now Knows the easy answer, sierra

and

2 that now Knows escort will fit but only if you have the right taper and can now check to make sure they are ok

I call that a result

Having looked at some pictures I think I am going to change mine to the Sierra ones. They seem to be the correct ones and are handed, with a bend in them, this must have an effect on the steering geometry. Best not to risk it when your zooming about at speed. Thinking forward to IVA I will be vey thankful when the man from the ministry spends five hours looking over my car with a fine toothcomb. At least I will have the confidence that I havn't put it all on back to front.

My patience with the buld is wearing a bit thin!
