I've been looking through my yearly roster and noticed that i am off the weekend for this run, thought it would be quite interesting to go,

But I'm not paying 87 quid just for the privelage,,, I have not seen anywhere on their site that indicates a nominated charity for the profits, Although you do get a £7 plaque for your car,

Has anyine else thought of doing this until they saw the entrance fee?

That seems very expensive for what one gets out of it and as you point out there is no nominated charity.

Although I do not have a kit car ready for the road, this is something that I would have liked to participate but I would not pay £80 for the privilege.

There are members of RHOCaR that organise other events so can they not get their heads together and organise a similar run. Any entrance fee could go to Hoody's campaign.

These are just my thoughts so don't shoot me.

I like your idea very much I had thought of doing the Brighton run but with accom cost , fuel and a big charge on top it would have been a300+ quid weekend toooo much .a shorter centralised run may be agood one regards mower man [mick]

I did the event 2 years ago with my wife as navigator it was a fun day out. It is a bit costly but a fantastic experience. Mick is about right on total cost if you live outside london and have to travel down the day before.

I did this last year, it was good fun but hard work as i was on my own. Got to park up on the sea front and look at all the other cars as they came in.

I'm assuming you are not doing it this year Marcus? did you think it was worth the 80 odd quid?

I just cant warrant paying that kind of maney for a ride in the countryside, surely they cant stop you following everyone else, Lol

Anyone up for it?

Not sure on this modern take on the run;but with the old cars (pre 1904)they drive through & park in the pedestrian precinct in Crawley, they may get slightly upset if gate-crashers followed the same path. It is a brilliant run for those old smokers with some very steep hills up & down to negotiategiven they have very little power & less brakes;we did it for a couple of years in a 1900 steam car.

Would like to do it in our "hand built" seven but as said above the price is too great for a 50something mile run.

P.S Wasn't the old car run sponsored by the RAC,Dinger? Would they like to front a similar event for all "hand builts"?

I support the Veteran london to Brighton run every year Bob which is very special indeed, leaving from Horse Gaurds Parade then traveling through Marbel arch, then down the Mall past Her royal highness's big pad, It takes us, as patrols around 12 hours to get to Brighton attending to the pre 1904 cars as they breakdown, I have made a set of points from a feller gauge before, The steam powered cars always make it there, its the petrol ones with external exhaust valves that seem to be a problem, However, the engineering is amazing and the initial principal has not changed over 100 years later, Although it is nice to have more than 3 harse power!!!!!

My "tag along" comment was just in jest, Although maybe an idea to arrange something of our own next year..

Your right Bob, We give our services to the "run" for free and usually have around 30 patrols and 20 recovery drivers attend, All in their own time and unpaid, Its something that any mechanical minded person should atleast see once in their lifetime,

This year we sponsered the "future car " run, which is from Brighton to London on the previous day, Also an interesting day,

Its was good fun and I would do it again. we where supposed to be flagged away by stirling moss but he was unwell (lift shaft) but still started at mercedes world and followed a set route. We had coffee stops on the way and a arranged visit to a steam railway. It is expensive but just about worth it at the end of the day.
