Seems a bit daft to me. What if you fail? Can you then drive it home? What if the failure is something dangerous that could have potentially caused harm to you or other road users on the journey to the test?

Yes, there is that risk.

 

If it's a minor fail that does not make the car un road worthy, you can take the car back. If it's a serious fail that would make it dangerous to drive that would impound it until you trailered it back.

 

How well do you think you have built it? If you are unsure, get someone round who has been through the mill and you can get some advice (especially if he has had to fix such problems) as Tea and Biscuits is cheaper than a re-test (well, so far that is :) )
