Simple Sorn Question

I've never done a SORN before, so:

1) Tax runs out end of this month, and I want to sorn the vehicle.

2) If I sorn it, will it still be driveable until the end of the month?

3) Or does the sorn start from the day I sorn it online?

Thanks,

-Steve

I'd just wait until the tax runs out. When your reminder arrives, just SORN it then.

If you had several months tax left, you could SORN early and cash in the rest of the tax so allow a few days before end of the month or else you would lose the next months refund too.

What he said, i SORNed for end off October about 5 days before the tax ran out

However when you re tax next year do it on the first day of the month you want to start using it or the DVLA will take the previous month in tax

  • 1 month later...

you need to sorn it if your insurance runs out as well.....likewise if your insurance is transferred to your "other car" it has to be sorned......unfortunately you cannot sorn a taxed vehicle so the tax has to be surrendered. thus it is now almost impossible to sell a car with tax unless you keep it insured as well, a real pain in the arse as i own 5 cars and like to keep at least two fit for the road. even the tax exempt car has to have the tax surrendered when its not insured.
