I have a sub k which currently has standard 14 inch steel wheels with 185/65/14r tyres. The tyres only have done about 150 miles. I am looking to buy a cheap/secondhand set of alloy wheels as a temporary measure which my current tyres will fit. I understand what 185/65/14r means. Can anybody tell me what other measurements i will need to consider to ensure new wheels will fit my car and tyres. I have heard of "et" but dont know what it means or what "et" i require.

Also can anybody suggest any suitable wheels.

cheers

Standard Sierra are 35-38ET but you can get away with ET23 on the rear

Be aware that any ET different from what you already have on the front will mean the wheel be offset from the front cycle wing

The seller has got back to me and says the tyres are 195/60/14 and the info on the back of the wheel is, 5 1/2 j x14H2E41. Will my 185/65/14r tyres fit on them and will they fit under my cycle wings which have been fitted for my standard 14 inch steel wheels?

I've just got some 16" inch Mondeo alloys et 35 and they fit my s7 which is currently running 14" steel wheels. Because the tyres are a lower profile the overall diameter hardly alters. As always the offset of the wheel seems to be the critical measurement.

Have a google on recommended rim widths for your size of tyre, thats what I did. Sorry I cant remember where the information came from probably the manufacturer. I would expect that your tyres will fit on that size rim as my 195 federals fitted on a 6j rim but you would be best to check for your make of tyres. The ET is not much different to yours but as already posted they may make your fronts interfere with the wings.

Thats what I have been up to today, getting my front wings adjusted so that my new wheels fit on. If you need it explaining to you Stuart (the duck) is the man he explained it to me. Basically if you can cope with 3mm different offset one way or another then they will fit. I think mine were 6mm different and I worked out that the front would not fit but the back would. My Father in law has kindly welded in a 5mm circle of tube in to the supports to give me clearance.

According to willtheyfit.com the wheel would be 3mm closer to the suspension strut. Just had a quick peek in the garage and that front cycle wing support is already flipping close. The gap is probably only about 4mm already. If anything, could do with the 3mm difference on the other side.

Never mind. I will keep looking. Thanks for the help.
