Hi,

I have a dilema, I'm thinking of a way to reverse the gears, by reversing the Diferential.

Is it posible to turn the diff upside-don to acheive such a thing.?

 

Are they any counter-clockwise specialist Diffs that use the Sierra Diff housing.?

Yes you can do this. By simply turning the dif upside down, you can sit in the car an put it in reverse and go forward with a max speed of about 10MPH, then you can use the normal 1,2,3,4 & 5th gears to go backwards at about 100MPH. I definitly think you shoud do it and bring your car to one of the track days.

 

I suspect you've got an engine that is rotating the wrong way?

 

The problem with mounting the diff A/T is that one driveshaft is longer than the other so you will have to swap them over. Also, the breather will be at the bottom, you will have to re-do this to enable it to breath from the top.

Also the pinion is now at the top of the diff & not immersed in any oil...

 

Suggestions.....

 

1. Get an S2000 donor & use the engine, box & rear axle...it is RWD isnt it?

 

2. Get a mid engined kit & fit a FWD engine & box behind the seats.

(See http://www.phantom.uk.com/phantomFrameset.html) This car initially used the Rover/Honda 2.7 V6)

 

3. Try & fit a reversing box as used by the bike engined boys. This solves the diff problem, but not the g;box. I doubt the type 9 would last long running backwards, The thrust on the gears is now on the "back" face & any thrust washers/bearings are now being abused from behind !!!!....

 

I do like the Honda engines....keep thinking!

I dont think there are any Anti-clockwise drive greaboxes that are common, atleast..

 

Maybe a Mk3 Supra gearbox? the Mk4 is BorgWarner, not sure about the Mk3 g/box..

But not all Japanese engines rotate the wrong way, (my Prelude one does) I understand a good indicator is with a transverse engine if the gearbox is on the drivers side then it goes the wrong way!

yea, very true..

 

the Mk4 supras have Getrag gearboxes (German !!)

 

any ways,

 

Im waiting for the head gasket set to arrive.. and maybe a T3 turbo manifold from the USA.

 

The engine looks fab degreased and painted up.. the head hasn't been touched yet, only the block and int manifold assembly..

 

will be having all my pics on a new site hosted by Tiscali.
