Driveshaft Thread - Both Normal, Righty Tighty...

Wondering - I've checked the part numbers for my drive shafts and they are definitely left and right hand. They both came in separate boxes, each with their own hub nut.

I was expecting one of them to be left hand thread, but they are both "normal" e.g clockwise to tighten. Daft question but is this OK? I am assuming it is, as this is how they come, but I want to be sure as the haynes says it should be reverse thread on the passenger side. Also, the beating kit I used comes with new boots which are normal and reverse thread, again suggesting that's the norm on Sierras.

Thanks!

Daniel

As far as I can remember, lh threads on such applications was phased out by fords.

If you use loc tite, you will be perfectly safe.

Just make sure your shafts suit your hub and diff as required. (Spline or bolted flange). Also both are the correct length.

Some cars use same length both sides. This means they would both be the same thread pattern.

Not heard of them having any problems yet.

Used to make me laugh at whey English companies (Roles Royce for one) used to have left hand threaded wheel nuts on the left hand side of cars and HGVs.

Centre locking hubs as in wire wheels yes, but when both parts as in your case are fixed in the same rotation 'WHY'.

RR kept this up until quite lately. Now everybody sees sence.

Aircraft are another story because of the amount of vibration.

Never had a staked nut come loose but there's always a first time! I use a fresh nut if I have to replace it and use a rounded off cold chisel to stake it into the groove so the staking isn't damaged in anyway.
