Mine now has a full size battery to engine connection, as well as an engine to chassis earth.

No probs since.

Yes Alan. I was just a little wary as to the fused eart wire.

I don't want to overload other circuits as I am now in effect by passing it.

If you use earth fuses they should be rated at the total o amps off all the comsumers its supposed to earth

but its not a great idea to earth fuse generally. ..

Since fitting the direct eart from battery to engine, neither my immobiliser or battery master switch work.

Seems the master switch is wired to disconnect all earth instead of power to the car?

Master switch can be in negative ( earth ) side of battery but all earth connections need to be after the master.switch.

This also reminds me that I have a fuse in the Earth side -- connected across the master switch so side lights will work ,but higher load ( i.e ingnition/fuel pump/starter motor) blows fuse & then all electrics dead.

Must add, masterswitch needs to be mounted on battery OR very close with a heavy (battery size ) cable linking back to the battery --- or else you'll have the same problems again Ken, only difference this time would be loads of Lucas smoke instead of blown fuse.

Was all working fine before going for the repairs and a new dash.

Had to do lots of remedial work myself since getting it back.

The panel it sits on is near the battery under the dash. It must have been out to change the dash.

They might have left one of the heavy leads untightened and it has probably worked loose.

Renewed rear brake cylinders and shoes today.

Intend the dash repairs tomorrow.

If it's not loose leads or faulty switch, I will do it next week after the steamy thingy at Pickering.
