Gasket Or Mastic?

I am in the process of changing my dipstick and breather tube on my redtop to one which has no unwanted pipes or blanking plugs on it and also has the bonus of being polished.

When I removed the old one it had been fitted using a black mastic which was stuck to everything, God only knows how many bits have ended up in the sump over the years.

My question is should I fit the new one with a paper or card gasket or resort to some other sealer. I have to say after seeing the mess just now I am inclined to make a paper one. I thought it would be best to ask the collective brain that is RHOCAR!
