There is the tail about the guy who welded his own tank.

He had seen some one useing a vac to clear the fumes.

So he stuck the hose of his vac into the tank to suck out the fumes switched on...BANG!

It was pointed out in A&E that some old vacs could be used to blow as well as suck.

It can take 24/48 hours to flush a tank clear of all fumes properly.

If you fill a couple of inches above your intended hole with water that will be fine.

If it's stainles you should not use a guide hole.

If it's ally, you have no problems.

Even li I batteries go up with a Big Bang.

I would suggest hold drill a an angle once you have a bite, keeping the drill body above the hole level.

Water should not be under much pressure, that's why I mentioned fill just above intended hole. Just enough to collect any sparks and cool any hot shavings.
