got some thing that has me confused, on my mgb I have a su fuel pump when I connect it to a battery out of the car it runs, in the car I won't, I've connected a test meter across the pump out of the car I get 13v pump runs in the car still with the meter connected still with 13v in the car nothing even when I swap batteries😠😩😟 any one got any ideas

I presume you have smacked it with an appropriate lump of wood. My brother kept a suitable length in the moggy for years.

When you run it out of the car is the pump in the same position/attitude that it is when fixed in the car?

Does it run in the car without the pipes connected?

They were polarity sensitive weren't they so got it the right way round?

Degraded wiring might lead to 13v on the meter but not enough amps to clickety clack to doofer (Sorry to get technical there).

Can't think of any other reasons.

A 2lb ball pein hammer ALWAYS fixed the pump in our '66 minivan --- it was the right length & weight for re-start from the drivers seat ( & still driving)

 

The dent in the floor pan showed how often used.
