Hi

Do people run with the spare wheel on tha back of their cars?

Ive just got my hands on some 16" alloys but only 4 of them so looking to remove the spare wheel carrier on the back, is it a case of just chopping the tubes underneath the rear of the car?

I prefer the look of the car without the wheel. Less weight too. I just carry a can of tyre weld aerosol. Don't know how effect it is but I am in the AA. Not need for a jack or wheel brace either.

Well I must be weird but I like the spare wheel look, not saying I would carry a jack or anything else. Just like the look.

Got breakdown cover , did your kits come with wheel carrier removed or did you build it like that or remove it yourselves

I sort of like the look but my new alloys wont match and different size

I have had breakdown cover refuse to come out to a flat before. Stating I should have a spare. This was in the tin top though.

I have never had a spare in my kits in 8 years and never had a puncture. Touch wood

My last 3 company cars have had no spare anyway only a compressor and a bottle of gunk. But when you have a first sized hole in the sidewall no amount of gunk is gonna fill it

Having had a flat tyre in my normal car caused by hitting a pothole and splitting the sidewall, I would always opt for a spare tyre. Gunk just doesnt work in those circumstances. The time and agro of finding a phone signal, waiting for the breakdown cover to arrive, going to buy a replacement tyre, and getting it fitted, all takes hours and ruins the rest of your day. With a spare you can be on your way in 30 mins.

In fact I wont buy a car now that doesnt have, or I cant add, a spare wheel.

We LIKE AutoAid around £43 per year much cheaper than AA or RAC or Green Flug and the premium covers all cars owned by Mr. & Mrs.

I personally prefer the look of my kit with a spare wheel, it also adds some protection from rear end impacts, by spreading the load. Remember the fuel tank is just behind it!

I carry a spare wheel, jack & wheelbrace. Not used it in 15 years. Car doesn't look right without it.

Also helps slow you down, Nigel. Maybe a bit??

Picnic basket does that job on Florin.
