Hello,

i would like to ask if anyone is aware or knows a way to put a guard on the reverse gear of a Type 9 Gearbox?

the reverse is on the top left past the 1st gear and at the moment it is very easy to select reverse instead of 1st gear… caught me out couple of times.

I have heard others having a type 9 gearbox and they have to press their lever down to put it in reverse but my stick does not move vertically at all.

Is the gearbox missing something or I have a version where reverse has no guard?

It definitely sounds like you're missing something, the lever should be sprung upwards so you have to push it down to select reverse.

I can't remember exactly how it goes together but there is a compressible rubber bit at the bottom of the lever which normally pushes the lever up.  If this is missing or not attached to the lever then reverse becomes a lot easier to find than 1st and driving becomes much more of a challenge !

Have a search on here for quickshift because I think there's an article that shows the breakdown of the lever when modifying it for a "quick shift".

This is a copy of Dave Andrew's DIY quickshift which might give you enough info. to work out what's happened to your gear lever.
