$64,000 Question

Unleaded injection head is already good. Skim 60 thou to give compression ratio about 10.3:1 and clean up ports and unshroud valve seats. New Piper 285 cam (personaly prefer Piper road cams to Kent) timed in with a vernier wheel, 38 DGAS or 32/36 DGAV and inductive ignition from early sierra.

You may find a 38 DGAS secondhand but a DGAV is almost as good and cheaper. Getting the ignition advance right and timing in the cam will give an engine that pulls from 1500 rpm and is still pulling hard at 5500rpm. You should be able to build it for £300. £350 tops.

We all want something different from our cars, this is my opinion.

It's nice to drive a car with plenty of oomph but sometimes going too far can make it a pig to drive especially in traffic and can cost alot of money to get it right. A good compromise is to do all the previous stuff e.g. porting, carbs, camshaft etc. which will give plenty of go, but on the rare occasion that you come up against a boy racer in his hot hatch ( which will leave you with egg on your face if the pinto is in standard mode) try fitting a nitrous oxide kit. There are some good ones around now and not too expensive and it's there when you want it but not all the time, making driving a bit more relaxed and enjoyable but still with the thrill.

Just my opinion

Peter ;)
