Tiebar Conversion

In response to Duncans post re Westfield anti-roll bars. I can confirm that there are no clearance probs. Both Magablade and I run anti roll bars front and back. This allows the suspension to be set up nice and soft for road use whilst totally eliminating body roll in turns. A click or two on the dampers for track days and your sorted. The Westfield items are hollow tubes, weigh next to nothing and are infinitely adjustable and although pricey are well worth it.

As an aside, I removed the Sierra roll bar from my Exmo in favour of the tie bar solution which improved the handling no end as it allowed the suspension to work independantly instead of being linked with a solid bar. Basically the Sierra bar was far too stiff (and heavy) to be truely effective when used in conjunction with the Robin Hood supplied springs. I do agree with Tim though that a anti-roll bar of some kind is a must if you want spot on handling.

I called in at the ford garage to have a chat about them, they range in sizes from 24-28 on the models we looked at, so I think something smaller would be more appropriate, has anybody actually fitted one from a different car?

Ace, thanks, that's very helpful - have you got them on a Robin Hood or on a Westfield? Whichever, like Salty, I'd be interested to see some pictures.

Incidentally, I sprent an hour with a vernier at a scrappie this afternoon. Looking at various cars (fiestas, golfs, renault clios/5s, escorts), the thinnest diameter ARB I found was 18mm. I'm tempted to find a local machine shop and see if they can reduce the mid section to 18mm (not quite sure how they'd do it) as an experiment. Can anyone think of a good reason why I shouldn't do this?
