  1. Thanks chaps. And thanks, John, for the socket offer, but working at Ricardo has it's benefits (e.g. free engine hoist, free sandblasting, free welding, free van usage, free-ish tool use)
  2. I've changed my mind and decided I will change the bearings after all. In the Haynes manual, it refers to a "drift" to knock the bearings out. Excuse my great ignorance, but what exactly is a drift?! From what I can gather on the net, it might be a long, tapered metal rod, but not all the drifts look like that.... Cheers, Pete
  3. You're going to be disappointed, cos I'm working out of a rented garage in Southwick, with no power or water! And an inclined bank at the front... I know, I'm mad!! But I AM building a Robin Hood
  4. Congrats on your SVA test pass, by the way, John!! What details would you like? Peter
  5. Hiya John, I just joined RHOCAR officially and got my letter back from Tim Norman as it happens, so I saw your star-studded name by "Area Sec"! I work for Ricardo, by the airport - You may have seen the the sign on the A27? The Lightweight kit is sitting up at the RH factory, just tempting me to go and get it Thing is, I can only borrow the work Transit on weekends and I don't see the point in hiring one when I can get it free, so I need a suitable weekend. RH are on holiday from Friday until 14th August, then I'm busy the following weekend, then they're on holiday for the Bank Holiday weekend, so looks like collection is 3rd or 4th of September :boohoo: :boohoo: Of course, my donor parts are all fully prepared Pete
  6. I work in Shoreham-by-Sea in Sussex and drove past a Seven replica at the airport the week before last. Had a look round and the only identifying mark I could see was "S7" engraved into the top of the gear knob. Definitely wasn't a Caterham, Westfield or anything like that, so my guess was a Robin Hood! Anyone claiming ownership?! Pete
  7. I was talking to my bro about the turbo Super Spec and we were wondering just how quick it is. I reckon the 0-60 has to be in the 5-6 secs region. Anyone actually measured it in their Super Spec (or any other Robin Hood for that matter) ? Cheers, Pete
  8. Nah, far too busy at work and I can only borrow the work van at weekends! Problem is, I'm busy the 3rd weekend in August and RH aren't working the August bank holiday, so it may have to be 1st weekend in September! :boohoo: All good things are worth waiting for..... Pete
  9. How much for those paints, chaps? Didn't you use a concrete sealer first? Cheers
  10. Getting a bit sick of the dusty concrete floor in my garage, so wondering if anyone had painted their's recently and what brand they used??? Bear in mind that my garage is rented, so I don't want to spend a fortune gifting my landlord with the ultimate floor only to move out next summer! Cheers, Pete
  11. Got my pre-collection letter yesterday. Apparently, I can collect the kit from next Wednesday, 20th July, and RH are on holiday for the first fortnight in August. I haven't QUITE (no where near) finished preparing my donor bits, so maybe I'll wait until after the hol! Pete
  12. I've been doing quite a bit of sandblasting recently and want to move onto the front uprights and hubs, but I'm wary because of the wheel bearings. I haven't separated the two and don't intend to because 1) it looks bloody difficult and 2) the bearings feel and sound ok. There is a gap between the hub and upright of about 1mm, so I was wondering if the bearings are well enough sealed that any sand that gets between the gap can just be blown out with an airline, no damage caused? After all, during the life of the car, plenty of dust must pass through that gap... If not, I suppose I can just tape up the gap, be very careful with the blasting, then remove the rust from that area by hand. Cheers, Pete
  13. OK, yes, I've checked and can now say categorically that the o-rings are for the injectors and the rubber circle sits between the thermostat housing and thermostat. Sorted! Pete
  14. That was a nice little article, Big Jim. Anyone know of anything else specifically about the Pinto 2.0EFI system? Cheers, Pete
  15. Thanks all. What does the Foamy Gunk do exactly? Is it the sort of think that you squirt in and it expands into the nooks and crannies? If it goes in the oilways aren't you in danger of contaminating the oil later with Gunk or water, or causing rust? Cheers, Peter
  16. Thanks for the suggestions, chaps I had a look at the injectors and it wasn't immediately obvious where those O-rings go, so I'll remove one from the manifold and have a proper look. As for the black rubber circle, it doesn't appear to go with thermostat, but I'll try it for size in a few places. Cheers, Pete

    Mystery Bits

With my Pinto head gasket set, I got some bits in the attached photo. In the top left is the camshaft oil seal, in the top right are the valve stem seals, but what about the bottom bits?? In the bottom right are some black rubber, doughnut-shaped items, which look like they would fit round the valve stems. However, there weren't any on the engine originally and these doughnuts are not mentioned in the Haynes Manual. In the bottom left is a black rubber circle, which could have something to do with the camshaft, but the inner diameter is too small to go over the camshaft. I haven't the foggiest what it's for! Now wondering if I've got some bits from another engine altogether with my Pinto gasket set. I'd be interested to know if anyone can solve the mystery... Cheers, Pete

    Core Plugs

Reading my Burton rebuilding guide, like a good lad, they mentioned that it's normal practice to replace core plugs, so I ordered a set. I thought I would practice getting a plug out of my knackered cylinder head first before attempting the good one, but those things are wedged in damn well! Any good ideas, chaps? Pete
  19. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...4554696130&rd=1 e-bay item 4554696130
  20. What are yaz all using to clean out all those nooks, crannies and hard to reach places inside the engine? I'm aware of gallery brushes, but who sells them and which ones are best and cheapest?? Cheers, Pete
  21. Looks to me more like the 1.6L is from an RS!
  22. Right, I'm going to go for it!!! I'm surprised to hear I'm the first.... Apparently they have lots of orders, with an eight week waiting time for a kit. Either that's a sales ploy, or none of these builders have heard of Rhocar? I see Chris Brown mentioned sealer - What sealer would you recommend for ali to ali joints, anyone?? Also, what are the best rivets to stop my crate from busting apart at the seams? Cheers All!
  23. Cheers chaps. That pic definitely looks different to mine. Now I have to decide -- Wait for a pick-up pipe to appear on e-bay, or sell my sump and buy another with pipe included..... Pete
