  1. Hi All, This is a bit of a cheeky post but I've just launched my new business - www.EnjoyYourMeal.co.uk - an online pub food recommendation site. Basically the public can use the site to find out where the best food serving pubs are near them and recommend their favourites. Every month we have a £50 prize draw which one of that month's recommeders can win. Our first draw was drawn by Adrian Parkinson of the RHOCAR club, at Heaves Hotel Kit and Classic car show last weekend. My RH 2B is our primary marketing tool, all stickered up with our logo. It's a great excuse to use the car and to make sure I get to as many shows as possible without any grief as 'I'm working' !. Oh and to go to loads of pubs too! So if any of you have time, have a look, recommend your favourite and perhaps if you're lucky you may win our prize draw..... the last winner wrote 9 recommendations . I'd also be grateful of any feedback about the site. The success of the site is primarily based on public recommendations... please help! Cheers, Jon Sponsoring the engine section on the forum too!
  2. Well i've managed to spend some time in the garage and get the dizzy modified as per the NW RHOCAR and Dave Andrews sites. What a difference! Torque right through the rev range and virtually no 'off cam' noticable. All was going great until the accelerator cable snapped! But fortunately it happend 10yds from a garage. Thanks again for the advice. I think i'll run a couple of tanks of petrol through with the twins on then change to the DGAS and see what the difference is like. Cheers, Jon

    Fan Temp Switch

Mine dribbles too! Any recommendation what temperature they should be set to kick in?
  4. Thanks Jim, Just read Daves artical on modifying the dizzy. A job for the weekend! I'll let you know how I get on.
  5. Jim, are you saying to get the dizzy modified as per the NW rhocar? I do have a DGAS that I can fit to check if it's a carb problem.
  6. Could it be possible that my cam timing is out by a little? The tuners reconed that it it must be pretty close if as im getting such good BHP at the top end..... but is the cam timing more sensitive at lower revs? Should I be getting my hands on a proper spinnie depth gauge and rechecking the cam timing?
  7. At the top is the diagram of the DPDT relay. Below is the diagram of the immobiliser... I haven't the foggiest which wire to put where!! Help!
  8. Cheers Mat, Well that diagram makes me feel a bit out of my league. Im not 100% sure that I've got the right DPDT relay! Has anyone else made this immobiliser on here?
  9. I've decided to make the immobiliser Mat pointed out at http://autospeed.drive.com.au/cms/A_0059/a...?popularArticle I got an envolope throught the post this morning with all the components from Maplins. I've got a very small black box infront of me and I haven't got a clue! Its the DPDT relay and it's got eight legs and no wiring diagam to tell me which wires to put where. It's part number is N17AW. If anyone is clever enough to enlighten me i'd be very grateful. Cheers, Jon

    Rh Steering Wheel

I've got a Mountney steering wheel pad. Send me your address and I'll pop it in the post for you. Jon
  11. Im running on twin dellorto 40's and the tyre pressures are about 20psi It's not really a missfire... it's more like Kangaroo petrol at low revs. There was one other thing... the tuners could't get the tickover revs down any lower than 1100 rpm which I thought was rather odd. They did suggest that I should change my o rings - carbs to manifold ones to the solid rubber bonded to metal type as I may be getting an air leak.
  12. Im putting the noise down to the thinner oil - changing from 20w-40w to 15w-50w and a couple of valve clearances being a bit to big. Perhaps I should take my other half's advise and just turn up the stereo when you hear a nasty noise! Although she the last time she did this her power steering pump pulley flew off at 70 mph losing her power steering and servo asistance on the brakes!! Cheers for the help Lads
  13. Hi Guy's, Is some of you will know I fitted a unleaded injection head and FR33 cam to my 2lt 2B recently. Yetserday I took the car to the tuners and had an hour on the rolling road. The good news was that it got 120Bhp at the wheels. Unfortunately the engine seems to have a problem between 2000 - 3000 rpm where it faulters in 3 and 4 the gear. Could this be due to not having a modified dissy? Any suggestiond! Cheers, Jon
  14. Cheers Dan, Words of wisdom!! I'll see what the rolling road boys make of it in the morning.
  15. I'm 99.9% sure the head and block have not been skimmed. At the same time as doing the cam / head change I also changed the oil. The previous stuff was the 5lt's I got in my donor refubishment pack when I bought the kit from RHSC and I remember it being a bit like treacle. The new oil was thinner...15w something...have to go to the garage and have a look! Would this have a significant effect on engine noise?
  16. I've just come in from the garage. I checked the spray bar was squirting lots of oil onto the cam and the valve clearances. Just had to adjust two valve clearances that were a little bit too big. Haven't run the engine under load yet so im not sure if it's made much difference. Andy - the noise didn't get any better / worse when the engine was warm.
  17. Yes I did the running in ok. As for the followers, there the ones that came with the cam kit so they should be correct. Not sure about the springs....when you say coil bound do you mean they are at max compression? If so i don't think they're getting that far as you can see light between the twirls at full lift. I'll check the contact areas tomorrow morning. Out else to look for??

    Engine Noise

Hi Guy's As some of you will know I've fitted a FR33 Kent cam. Now I've got it all back together now I can really hear the Cam follower banging away like a sewing machine! Is it normal that the cam followers get noiser when you fit a hotter cam? During the change over I fitted new cam, cam belt, cam followers, springs, unleaded head, spray bar and new bearings. Im pretty sure that my valve clearances are correct and im going to take the rocker cover off tomorrow and run the engine to check that the new spray bar is doing its job. Anything else I need to look at?

    Cam Change

Well after a hour and a half of resetting all the cam and ignition timing she's running like a dream! Almost.... definately well enough to drive to the rolling road! Thanks for the advice! Cheers, Jon

    Cam Change

Thats very much what it sounds like when running without load. pulsing type of exhaust note! I'm of to the garage now to take the timing belt off and start again! At least the cam has been run in! Cheers Guy's

    Cam Change

well for the 20 minute it ran ok ish. i was just reving freely. once it takes some load i.e. driving the car it bangs through the exhaust and has next to no power. It's like either the exhaust is opening to early or the ignition is happening too late. I might be wrong on this as im no expert!

    Cam Change

Yes, It seems to get worse. If i had the cam 180 degs out on the crank the engine wouldn't start would it??? I think my main problem is that i don't have a gauge that to stick in the spark plug hole to determine true TDC and put on the no.1 inlet to check that full lift is happening at the right time. I really don't have a clue if i've got it right or not.

    Cam Change

Hi Guy's Anyone got any helpful advice on setting up the cam/ ignition timing. I've installed a FR33 cam and run it at 2500 rpm for twenty minutes to bed it in, but its not running well and when i tested it down the road it was banging through the exhaust on almost every stroke! A really struggle and no power. Somethings you shouldn't mess with!! I just need to get it running well enough to drive the 20mile to the tuning garage. Cheers Jon.
  24. Yep there right! Thanks Guy's The one on the left is for the first exhaust port. The others fit the rest. I have tried to offer them up the wrong way round! Cheers, Jon
  25. Hi Guy's, Im in the process of changing my cam and head. I bought a head gasket kit from the local motor factors the other day. In the kit there's 1 of the left hand side exhaust gasket and 3 of the other! Am i missing something! I think that there should be 4 of each so you can use the relevant set. I've put the gaskets up against the head and its the one that I have only one of thats correct! Am i going mad of am i right? Cheers, Jon
