  1. yes mine passed SVA on 8/9 CO measurements using modified ECU was 0.2 on pre test and 0.0 at the test station As I have pointed out in previous posts screened leads from Lamda sensor to the engine loom plug at the alternator are advisable to avoid the problems some SS owners had. Yes it is costing me £101.75 for 6 months road tax. On the V56 new car registration form most of the emission info has to be left blank.. Build up inspection on Monday 22/9/08 so should have my 58 plates. BTW DVLA are getting more twitchy about the rear axle, I had to get an addendum to the Newness cert supplied by RH to cover the fact that the axle was rebuilt to as new. I'm told that this is because in the rules to get a new reg although a major component can be reconditioned it must be certified as such by a supplier.
  2. What the car and switching.. The Vicki Loom is strange but not heard of that one..
  3. Tried that one !!! Visit out ... that stopped I understand at least 2 years ago.... When you read the WEB site etc.. the Build up before SVA is not now acceptable.. Anyway got my date... 22/9/08 next Monday at 11:40 so should be on road Monday p.m. Hope Sun shines...
  4. Totally agree the download SVA manual although not 100% is a must. At my SVA last Monday Dave the tester explained what he was doing based on the manual sections so at least I felt I knew what was going on.. Load it down and enjoy.
  5. Once again DVLA problems... Thought when I got the MAC on Monday no more red tape. Have now had three trips to the DVLA office. First time had wrong registration form. Second time the queue time was about 1.5 hours... so did not wait.. Today nice nobody about got ticket and was seen in 2 - 3 minutes. Forms + documents checked over all seemed OK said the man.. Then handed over the money 55 for registration + 6 months tax 101.75 Off the man went to find the woman who does build up inspection... Came back with the comment she had to leave for a meeting so couldn't set time for inspection or come and arrange anything she would write to me in the week... So had paid over my money and got nothing.. not even a date. Are all DVLA offices so jobs worth !!! Very frustrated and now I don't even have the original of the MAC only a copy to keep me warm at night... It must end soon
  6. Why not simply get Custom made Goodridge they are wonderful I used K300 The guys there are very helpful and you get what you want..
  7. Yes did use the ECU as supplied. Took it to Avon Electronics to match the Immobilizer box they make to it since as many have found the ECU is not immobilizer mapped out always. With regards to emissions.. Used the Lambda supplied. result was a staggering 0.0 i.e working 100% CORRECTLY OVERALL ACCORDING TO TESTER HE DID IT TWICE TO BE SURE. Pre SVA test had shown 0.1 % overall Reason I believe this is so good is to do with 1. Ensuring Heater on LAMBDA is switching on !!!! I have seen relay wiring that has made me Cr**** 2. I used shielded cable for Lambda signal from the plug near the alternator to the sensor, The joint to the sensor was shielded at the crimps. 3. If you look at Rover 820, 620 and 420 wiring diagrams for MEMS ECU there is an addendum identifying even with Rover approved LAMDA fitted that the cabling will benefit from being shielded. Discussed this fully with Paul at Avon he has a vast knowledge on MEMS ECU and the Lambda sampling on MEMS includes very little noise filtering so even if your Lambda is working 100% if its cable is near noisy electrical systems and the alternator is one of the noisiest the signal without a shield may be degraded so badly you might not have any feedback that the MEMS can use and the ECU will remain open loop controlling hence very rich lots of CO2 I have seen comments of grinding the exhaust mount to get Lambda further into gases all this does does is make Lambda more Bang - Bang control since there is only a 1Volt swing on the sensor from fully Rich to fully lean in the control loop So hope that has helped other info at Lambda and Paul at Avon on von Regards....
  8. Had to have a day in the garage... Must find the problem of why top hose blew off and a cause of the starting problem. 1. Took Thermostat out ran it for 90 minutes hard at times and low and behold no excess pressure so no blow off. 2. Boiled the thermostat don't tell the wife I used her saucepan, it opened then closed even while hot. Oh!!! so a faulty stat looks like the cause will put in a new one and repeat tests. 3. While running to try and blow the hose again, I tried stopping and restart and the sticky starter problem came back ... Then put on another Battery earth and low and behold it went away... So as suspected its the earth path for the starter current again. Rechecked my earth strap Engine to Gear Box and thats fine so decided to make my dual earth Battery to chassis a final fix and it now seems fine. All you Superspec owners a quick question I have my Cert of Newness from RH but having visited the DVLA they don't agree the wording regarding the status of the rear axle and the fact it was rebuilt as good as new they want a letter from RH --- pain... Spoke to Richard and he promised to do but experience is what he says and when he does are two different things. Any one else had this problem ? Also when have people had to pay REG + Tax Birmingham DLVA want it up front before they will give me a build up date is that normal. Still got a smile on my face...
  9. Hi If you are going to fit weather gear then I was told that you should fit back of weather gear before the screen to ensure you have correct dimension for top of the screen position. On an SS I saw at a show the screen was much closer to the demist vents to make this happen. As you don't have the Rover Engine no good asking you about the hot start problem !! Cheers Tony
  10. Hi.. Got mine through SVA yesterday with screen on, the position of the supports to the scuttle depend if you are going to fit wet gear. I did not nor will I so I fitted approx mid point between the demist and wiper spindles with the support bottom level to get correct angle on the screen did not realise this is measured at SVA. The angle with bottom of the support level and screen as above also got a thumbs up from MR SVA on the blowers saying at least they sent air to the right place - more than many he had seen. My screen fitted where it touched it depends on the final bends you locked into the sides of the scuttle. Your supports may or may not be set, mine where, if you put them together with the twist inside you should get the shape shown on the 2B DVD I also suggest you use more screws into the screen I used 5 evenly spaced each side. Then you need mastic + gaffer tape to complete some form of seal!! Mines quite poor on seal when the tester fired the screen wash and used the wipers water came under the screen in a lot of places. but oh!! its a RH was his comment Regards Tony G

    Sva Pass

It did it passed first time at Birmingham today !!!!! Even though :o 1) it developed the Superspec habit of not starting when hot.. Thought I had solved that problem with an extra earth strap Engine to Gear Box any other solutions the starter simply won't turn it over, its like a flat battery but test showed Battery OK leave a few minutes to cool and bingo it starts. 2) right at the end after the noise test it blew off the top radiator hose but to late to fail the tester had already announced it had passed. ^_^ Wish Birmingham DVLA were as helpful, they are being very anti getting a build up date, they now want some thing from RH to confirm the rear axle on the rolling chassis I bought from RH was reconditioned as new !!! So it was back into the garage till I can get the bits of paper.. Never mind that MAC certificate has pride of place in the house till I have to hand it over to DVLA.. Thanks to all who gave me support and advice its been a very very long time ...
  12. hi Well after 6 weeks from application, why it has taken so long to get a date VOSA can't explain, the date of the test arrived today. Because of this long delay in getting a date through it now has to be in September the 5th because we are away for most of August. Its at Birmingham and from some previous threads it looks as if the testers are quite helpful can anyone confirm ? I must admit I have decided to take a new philosophic approach, i.e. expect them to find something wrong, rather than the worried approach I have had since the car was nearly finished i.e. tweek this cos the SVA may not like it !! The car will remain in garage as is; from now to the test otherwise I'm going to keep seeing things and get worried I should change this or that. Then if it passes ohhhh wouldn't that be good !!!! Equally if they find things then I will only need to put those right rather than spending the next weeks worrying if I should change this or that... New cool old worried Question.. Does any one know if DVLA in Birmingham has moved from Edward St out to Garrets Green opposite the SVA test centre and has anyone managed to get build up done at the same time as the SVA?
  13. hi Car Builder Solutions have the transfer sheets in the 2008 catalogue cbs Hope this helps
  14. Hi All the carpet in mine is fixed with heavy duty Velcro..
  15. hi I fitted the washer bottle below the tray and cut a hole in the tray to get to filling top. Left the foot on the expansion not in the way and it sat on the back of the tray. The major problem was the exhaust but after wrapping the 4 branch, layered the bottom of the tray and no problem with heat. Cheers Tony
  16. Can't Find my pictures of fitting these But.. 1. Fitted with tank and rear panel on. 2. They will fit where they touch typical RH 3. Infilled the gaps with Fibre Glass to seal the gaps and also built inner wheel arches Fibre Glass 4. Sealent sealed the infills to the tank so the whole rear section having built an Ally back panel is now sealed up Ensures the rear electricts are free from any chance of getting wet.. Hope this makes sense... Will try and take so pics if not but with Carbon Fibre no on not going to be very clear.. Regards Tony G

    Sva At Last

At last the form has gone... along with my cheque... The replys to my last gasp post when I was nearly at my wits end.. gave me enough get up and go with a little help from wife and sons to finish all of the last bits except the mirrors Can anyone explain the test ? I am confused by various posts in the past.. Are the RH exterior mirrors supplied with the SS SVA OK ? They seem to be the same as the Caterham style sold by Car builders -- CB say they are OK What about the interior mirror also supplied with the SS is this SVA OK Can any SS owners tell me what they did, the garage photos are difficult to see the mirrors... I do have the screen on, it fits I would not say its a perfect fit, did other SS builders find that the scuttle shape and the screen are not the same !!1 Well it is a RH so what else could you expect.. Thanks
  18. Don't Know if the gear wheel is right for your Diff. The toad stool plug goes in to hold the gear into the box.. You source the bolt that locks it in in The oil seal is just that an oil seal for the shaft. The cir clip holds the cable.. Note that you can not get the straight cable in withoutt a tight bend on the cable which will break it.. I went to speedy cables and bought the 90 degree FORD adapter fitted that and had a new speedo cable made MUCH easier..
  19. I sourced a pair from a scrappy The cluster is from a 1600 Escort with REV counter. The scrappy I went to had the white and blue and the attchment identifies the FORD to LOOM relationship although I do have a probleem with my Rev Counter !! Instrument_Panel_Details.doc
  20. Enough is Enough... As can be seen from the Signature I have been building this far to long... There are only a few items to finish and a little trim to do but with my knee problems this is a few to many ... just lost all enthusiasm , Today got myself down to drill a hole and could not get back off the floor. Don't want to admit defeat at this late date but may have to unless there is some one I can turn to to get the last bits finished.. Any Suggestions or a willing volunteer(s) will pay of course the major items are... 1. Front cycle wing brackets can't see how to fit the brackets to the solid bars - video shows tube to tube I have tube to solid and its impossible as far as I can see to get any alignment method since you can't clamp one to another and drilling without a clamp is impossible. 2. Boot lid, its fitted and a lock is inserted but I can't get a mechanism to latch down that will accomodate the flex in the carbon fibre / hinge so won't stay shut 3. Fit the windscreen this is made but not attached 4. Fit seats, the extra angle iron for under the floor pan is made, all the carpets are cut ready to fit, just needs the seats to be bolted, and the final seat belt mounting attached under the floor all of this is working under the car and my knee will just not let me get down and up again.. The remaining trim etc., plus edging for SVA can probably manage with the wifes help... Anyone know if I do decide to sell what sort of value a 2.0ltr Rover non turbo nearly finished car might fetch ? Thanks for reading this...
  21. Hi On one of the build videos I have Richard explains these extra holes were a mistake and to ignore them..

    Fuel

Hi The Rover ECU will only switch on the fuel pump for about 1.5 to 2 seconds its a function of the ECU initiallisation set up. .This is obviously not long enough to pressure up your new fuel system. You will need to upgrade the ECU since the standard for the Rover T series can't be modified on the set up sequence.
  23. Hi I have spent the best part of 2 years and approached > 50 people and organissations about the heritage of the T series Engines in the superspecs. Yes they are T series 2.0lt but they are european specs built for export spares, thats as close as I have come to identification, they are a mixture, and in some instances a hybrid, as stated yes the deep sump version was fitted to the 820 in the UK but it can be found in the 420 and 620 in export models!! An ex manufacturing manager from longbridge also told me that the early export 620's had an engine fault that meant they were being replaced under warrenty in europe with this deep sump type of T series. The general agreemnt from people I have spoken to puts these engines as manufactured ... 1998/99/2000 the details were probably lost at longbridge as it closed, various ex longbridge managers said that manufacturing details on spares especially for export were not removed to the archive as the plant closed The ECU's supplied as many have found are reconditioned units that should have been modified to remove the immobilizer code requirement again this fits with the export theory as Rovers exported to the US could not have the alarm fitted since it did not conform to the US specs. On a UK version the alarm/immobilizer ECU would have been fitted and mapped to the anti knock sensor to identify the engine block to the ECU. I am still following up some possible avenues that could finally shed light on the Engine Block numbers to fully identify year of manufacture allowing the SVA emissions test to be carried out to the correct spec for the T series engine design rather that the generic test carried out since no absolute date can currently be proven. Sensors

Hi Whats the engine ? Most rolling chassis superspec's had a Rover engine ? If it has then all these sensors are directly connected to the ECU and you should have the engine loom in place.. The two multi ways on the Rover Loom need alteratioon to fit them into your main car loom If you look at my posts you will find details etc.. regards TonyG
