  1. If you have a paper printout of a valid MOT, then why not try the post office method? At least you will have a witness that you had both valid insurance AND MOT and tried to pay the tax if the cameras pull you up. Simon.
  2. There seems to be another issue with this problem that may be related. I have just signed in again after at least a day away and find there is "no new content since my last sign in" - I can't beleive that to be true. I will try and remove the cookies after signing out again later and see if that cures the problem. This never used to be an issue until fairly recently. Thanks, Simon.
  3. This is the only forum message board I use so I cannot tell if this is the case. I agree with you about password hashing. You cannot decrypt this to get back your original password (in sensible time that is) as your password is encrypted first and only this encrypted part is compared with the stored password hash. I did not check to see if "remember me" was ticked of not. I'll check next time I login. I did not mean to start a scaremongering issue as I know passwords are NEVER stored in plain text on machines Simon.
  4. I found that by removing the pass_hash cookie which has an expiry of just under one month, the sign in problem did not occur again. I have no idea why the password hash is kept as a cookie as I think it should not be doing that. My passwords are kept separate from the cookie store so the password being stored in a cookie is just wrong. I will clear that cookie after I sign out again and see if that fixes the issue. Simon.
  5. This has happened again this morning straight after startup. I checked which cookies are being kept and one seems to be the pass_hash which expires in one month. Could that be the problem? I will remove that part and check later. Simon.
  6. That's basically the nut / bolt type job with a large washer. I had some made up that had ball bearing mating surfaces which made them easier to use but the weak point is that the nut you use is only good for a few rivnuts before you have to replace with another as the threads tend to wear out quickly. Works well though. Simon.
  7. I have found that it still happens too. I signed out, cleared the cookie cache and it was ok for a while. I then signed in and out again without closing chrome and find that I was logged in again later on. This is an annoying security loophole and really needs fixing. Hope that someone will be able to fix this? Simon.
  8. Problem seems to have returned again with Chrome not signing out correctly again. I will try and clear the cookies again, but cannot understand why this has reoccurred ? I know I signed out, yet after about an hour or so, just refreshing the page in Chrome shows me logged in again. It shows me as signed out if I immediately refresh the page after first signing out and for a few minutes afterwards. It only occurs after some long undetermined time period. Wierd. Simon.

    You're welcome Simon.

To answer the question posed by Alan above. If you attach one side of a lamp to battery +ve (12 volts) and measured the unconnected side to the battery -ve (0 volts) with a multimeter set to volts, you will find that there is +12 volts there. The reason is that the volt or multi meter is a very high resistance instrument and draws almost zero amps. (The lamp will also not light up) Once you connect the other side of a lamp to the battery -ve or 0 volts, a large current will flow through the lamp which lights it up and you will find that the voltage will drop to 0 (or there is +12 volts across the lamp) You will not be shorting out the battery as the lamp is between the terminals doing what it should (lighting up) and the resistance of the lamp determines its power rating. (2Bbuilt - if you have no power on either side, then the ignition switched live is not getting there and you need to find out why) Note - you cannot just measure the resistance of a lamp when cold as it will give too low a reading. Resistance of metals increases when they get hot which is why there is a large surge current through tungsten lamps when cold - this is the reason they always fail when you turn them on and not usually when they are lit) Since Power = Volts x Current you can work out the current (E.g 60 Watts @ 12 volts => 5 amps). Then you can work out from the fact that Power also = Current squared x Resistance. I.e 60 Watts = (5x5) x Resistance. So the resistance should be 2.4 ohms WHEN HOT (which you cannot measure). You will find the resistance when cold will be much lower than this for a 60 Watt lamp. Hope that helps? Simon.

You will have +12 volts on either side of the h/brake lamp when it is off. The h/brake is a switch to ground and THEN you will have 0 volts on one side of the lamp (and it will be lit) Simon.

    Brake Problem

You can also get the easy-bleed system which uses air pressure from the spare tyre to do the work of the "monkey in the seat" and I found it did the job very well. You sometimes have to re-pressurise the tyre when it runs out and you can't use too much pressure else it might blow the cap off the master cylinder. Simon.

    Big Thank Yous

Thanks Mick. It was an interesting problem to sort out. Hope you're happy with it now and if you need telephone support, please feel free to call. Simon.
  14. Been rather busy with archery tournament organising. Will look at it Tuesday onwards ... Simon.
  15. It's a good habit to get into for security reasons, especially banking online for instance. I have since noticed that clearing the cookie history from Chrome has seemed to fix this problem as it has not happened again after doing that. Simon.
  16. Well, so far so good. This problem seems to have gone away after I removed the cookies from the history in Chrome. I will try again tomorrow and I hope this problem is resolved. Thanks, Simon.
  17. Thanks for all the tips. I will check these out. Thanks, Simon.
  18. I have just tried clearing the "cookies" history only in chrome and I restarted the computer and chrome after a longer period and this time I was not automatically logged in, which is good. The other machine running firefox was logged in, then out and hibernated (first one that the problem occurs on is a cold restart - I would have thought the problem would occur the other way around - oh well) The second one did not automatically login in again, but I have only tried that for one day so far. I will logout again from this machine and see if the problem reoccurs later. Simon.
  19. I am not the only one who is seeing this problem. (It has also occurred again this morning). It seems to happen after a long but unknown time period. I was mistaken about the logged in users database - I meant the utmp file which is accessed by the who / whoami / users or w command. I will now also try this on a second machine to see if a different browser shows the same problem. I will log out from this one now. Simon.
  20. I just refreshed the page again and found I was logged in again without me doing so. Looks like the initial logout works, but the whois database where the login record is kept is not being updated correctly? Simon.
  21. This time I had to log in to the site. If you did something, it worked. I will check again later if this is cured. Simon.
  22. I have just seen this happen again about 100 minutes after logging out. I had not closed chrome down, only waited while doing something else. I thought it might occur after 60 minutes or so. I will try signing out again and wait for a hour before refreshing the page again. Simon.
  23. I have just restarted my computer and started chrome and can confirm that there is a definite problem as I was already logged in and did not have to go through the sign in page. Simon.
  24. I am using chrome and I know I logged out of RHOCaR. I didn't close the browser session or restart the machine, yet I found myself logged in again after about an hour later when I just refreshed the page. Odd behaviour. I will now log out again and shutdown and try again later today. Simon.
  25. As above. Does anyone have a recommendation for editing *.mov type files created by the sjcam sj-4000 video camera? I would be interested in cutting / splicing and converting to other formats mostly. Thanks, Simon.
