hi jay I made mine from length of extractor pipe from B&Q, it was cut down the middle ends cut to shape, then covered with foam wrap sheet, then covered with leatherette, I put a piece of plywood under to raise it by 20mm. hopefully some pictures are below Mark

Hi More advice please I have set my timing as per the manual @ 8 degrease, but the engine is still pinking, The engine is a 2.1 pinto, 38dgas and standard cam Any advice greatly received Thanks Mark

thats great thanks mark

Hi By any chance does anybody know which way to turn the dizzy to advance the timing? (pinto) Clockwise or anticlockwise The reason I ask, I’m at work with the kit with no timing light and want to move it a bit before I set off home. Thanks Mark

hi Nigel thanks for that mark

This is probably a stupid question but… I should be refitting my head this weekend, and was wondering, in the manual it says “Stage 4 (after running engine for 15 minutes at 1000 rpm) . . . . . . 95 to 115 70 to 85” Does this mean tighten the bolts when hot or wait until cold? Thanks Mark

Mower man/longboarder I have been putting things back onto the engine after a rebuild, the picture in the manual shows the trigger and pick-up post together when the rotor arm is at the scribe line, so I assumed my dizzy was wrong. But you have put my mind at rest. Thanks Mark
-
Hi Could somebody please take a picture of there dizzy with the rotor arm at the BTDC mark? What I want to know is where your trigger and pick up’s are in relation to mine, I have looked in the manual and mine don’t seem to be the same Thanks Mark

could it be the camshaft bearings? if so how do you get them out? thanks mark

Hi all A bit of advice please, I have just installed my cylinder head, and have set the valves as per the Haynes manual, but it rattles like a diesel. It’s a 2.1 pinto with standard cam, I can’t see any wear on the cam or the followers, the head has been converted to unleaded, The head isn’t my original head I got it from eBay. So don’t know where or what it’s done. Any advice would be much appreciated, I’m pulling my hair out and I don’t have much left Thanks Mark

Hi all, just an update, I have finally found the problem, it’s a cracked piston, so hopefully I can get a replacement piston, new rings and I’m back on the road for the summer. Thanks again for all your reply Mark
-
Hi ianjenn The convert looks good, did you have to change your firewall? Any chance of a picture of the back of the engine, my pinto is playing up and I’m thinking of doing the same. mark

That’s all I can think of, I have ordered the gasket set its only £15 so it’s worth a try, although the old gasket looks fine, I will have it all back together tomorrow and see how it goes, thanks to everybody for your reply’s Thanks Mark

The engine has been running fine, it’s only done 800 miles since its last rebuild, I’m now thinking it’s the head gasket, when it happened the engine was running rather hot so I think that I have possibly blown it what do others think? Thanks mark

Hi mike Thanks for the quick reply, just been into the garage and it all clear Thanks again Mark

Hi all I’m having problems with my pinto, the engine is pumping oil out of the oil filler cap, I have taken the head off but cant see anything wrong with the piston tops, no cracks or holes, anybody know what it might be? My next step is the bottom end off, ho what joy. Thanks mark
-
I had the same problem, it turned out to be the fuel filter.

Thats great, 1" it is then, thanks for all your help. Mark

Sorry if I have mislead you, my pedal box didn’t come with the tube, so I’m going to make a one to fit, I just need to know how long the tube sticks out The first pic isn’t of my pedal box but this one is hope it makes it clearer Thanks Mark
-
Hi all Could somebody do me a measurement of the bit of tube that pokes out of the servo plate for the clutch cable to go through (please see pic) Thanks Mark
