  1. I think you've had an attempted burglary :(

This is a common MO, but no where near as common as car keys being 'fished' through the letter box to steal the car. It's amazing how many people leave their car keys on a table in the hall by the front door, or on a hook just inside.

Sadly, whilst the massive innovations and improvements in vehicle security have driven down the volume of vehicle thefts, burglary is on the increase, particularly where the sole object of the search is the car keys to the shiny beemer or audi on the drive...

  2. Bought an alternator today off ebay for the boy's Austin Healey Sprite project from the Westfield shop. Seeing as they are only a few miles down the road I asked if we could collect to save the hefty postage. "Sure, come down, I'll put it aside for you".

Arrived at the factory in Kingswinford a short while later and did the deal - £36 for a brand new 18ACR alternator! The chap who served us (Ross I think) asked if we were interested in a tour of the factory. We jumped at the chance, so our £36 purchase got us a full tour of the factory and all the cars - some seriously impressive stuff there, plus a sneak peak at a 'secret' development project (sorry, sworn to secrecy). Great tour, and Alex got to sit in some impressive cars. I asked the chap whether there were any apprenticeship opportunities and he turned to Alex and said, "It's always worth writing in". I said, "not him mate, me!" :p

Full marks to Westfield for a great experience! :good:

  3. Mark mate, not being funny but I'd take that video down if I was you. Using a vehicle in a dangerous condition, no seat belt and arguably dangerous driving ... you've identified yourself and posted the evidence for the whole world to see...

  4. There were days when police vehicles would be retired after 100,000 miles and only a few years old. Sadly though and in the current financial climate we are keeping vehicles for much longer and whilst they still get an excellent service regime they are all getting very 'tired'.

    Aren't we all.

  5. I have a great deal of respect for Phil and the rest of the committee and duly acknowledged their efforts and that of the club at the stand. I don't see why I shouldn't post my honest feedback of this event in case it puts people off attending ... last year I did not go to Stafford (although it's only 30 miles from me) because of the feedback on the forum after those attended on the Saturday and slated it (quite rightly, it seems and I'm grateful that they ensured that I didn't waste my time). I stand by my comments; this show had little to get excited about, it was so very 'same old' and nothing like the Donington shows I used to attend when I first got into kit cars. Sorry, but that's just my point of view.

  6. For those of you that go to a show on a Saturday then come home and post on here that it was not up to your expectations. How the hell do you think the show organizers are ever going to build a show when you bunch of idiots are putting people off going on the Sunday. this is the firs show put on by the magazine and I think they did a fantastic job, yes there were short falls but auto jumble ETC is thing that they want to bring to the show. Stoneleigh is a long established show and was built up over a number of years, this was done when there was no internet so a few short sighted idiots could not help to bring a show to its knees over a short period by posting on forums like this. Instead of posting negatives why not post the positives or better still not at all.

Calm down fella. For my part I posted what I thought. I will always post what I think and not feel that I have to post something that will appease. I recognised the positives by praising the effort made by our club on the stand. I drove 60 miles to get there, was disappointed, went home. If you don't like my opinion, fine, but don't call me an idiot for my honesty. Jeez, sometimes this forum...

  7. Yeah, flying visit for me too ... no passenger this time so at least it was free to get in, although a tad annoying having to queue at the entrance to the club area. If this was the great re-launch for the Donington show then sadly it didn't deliver. The show hall wasn't very impressive and a low number of stalls. I recall there used to be a huge marquee tagged on to the exhibition hall for numerous other stalls ... not any more. Watching a few Mk II Fiestas charge clumsily around a bit of the track passed a little while, but I didn't stay long. Good effort by the club though; easily the most organised, professional and well-attended set up of all marques ... well done everyone.
