  1. Gents

     

    I've been looking at fitting the rear arches on my Zero and it looks like the new type exhaust I have is sitting too far back and will not allow me to fit the arch properly.

     

    Have any of you come across this problem and if you did what did you to resolve the problem. I'm not able to push it back as it is tight against the manifold. I am thinking that I'll have to cut a section out of the end or the manifold but I'd like to know if this is a common issue or am I getting something wrong.

I have to say that I have an Omex running my Zetec and buying the part built engine loom from them made the whole thing really easy to cable up, I would consider using the loom from the ECU supplier if I was you. It may also mean that if the engine bay wiring is your problem you can remove a lot of it and replace with the ECU loom and maybe keep the rest, really depends on what the issue is.

  3. Ok so the job is done and all is working as it should. The two diodes work like very well but just to be on the safe side I used the two out puts from the dipped and main beams to trip a relay which carries the main load. Probably a bit over the top but it works like a dream. Thanks for the help.

    I have a bit of a problem, my rear g

    Fog only works with the dipped beam, I know it shouldn't work with side lights but it should with the main beam.

     

    I have my two relays which are both working fine and are eath switched. My problem is that the wire feeding the live to the foglight is taken off the dipped beam relay and If I put a wire to the main beam relay it will link and feed power to both the main and dipped beam at the same time and both elements will be on at the same time.

     

    Any suggestion you be very helpful.

    I have to say this one has been driving me mad, I do not have a GBS loom and the guy that supplied it gave me the pinout for the switch. No life from the Dip or Main beam. Having now looked into some of the old topics on here it looks like ford switch the relay with a positive feed for 83 units and negative for 87 on. This is easy to fix which ever way it is but my problem is I'm not sure what age my switch set is as I picked them up second hand about 12 months ago, do any of you knowledgeable lot know how I can tell the differance.

  6. Can you explain what the ignition live is for? I don't have this on my loom and I have a dd2 lite dash that has the alternator light built in which is operated by voltage drop on the feed. Do I need to connect a wire to the ignition live?

  7. Ok if you face the brakes just under the wheel cylinder at the top is the adjuster bar, on the left of that bar you can see the actual adjuster arm which is pushed through the shoe.

    If you put a medium sized flat screwdriver into the gap between the shoe and the adjuster arm and push it slowly right you will turn the adjuster which will clicks. You only want to do two or three clicks and then get the shoes roughly centred again. Refit the drum pull up and down a few times on the hand break to recenter the shoes properly and try turning it, you should be able to turn the drum by hand but get some resistance. If it's not right then take the drum off again and adjust as required.

     

    Looking at your photos the bake system seems to look wet but I can't tell if it's oil and if it's on the shoes, if it is then you will never get the hand brake to work. I think you may have a leek from the wheel cylinder. The best way to check is to pull back the dust cover, if it is wet inside you will have to replace both the wheel cylinder and the shoes on both sides. Also if this is the case then I would not drive it until it is fixed as you could loose the rear breaks if the cylinder fails fully.

     

    I may be wrong but if there is break fluid inside the wheel cylinder dust cover then you need to get it sorted.

  8. Hi

     

    My advice would be check which type of system you have on your car, Ford did a few different adjuster systems, once you know which you have look up the process online. Other than that post a photo and I should be able to tell you how to adjust them.

    How many clicks do you get on the handbrake before it bites? This will tell you if they need adjusting anything around 4 is ok. If they are adjusted correctly then you may find the drums are badly worn or groved on the contact face, this will stop them working correctly.

    I have just had a delivery from GBS and I am wondering if I have got all that I am supposed to get. I ordered an alternator kit, radiator, water pipe kit and exhaust pipe. I have received no fixings or bolts with the alternator kit and no clips with the hose kit. Also when I ordered a Plenum I also got no fixings.

    I would like to know was this the case for everyone that ordered these parts.

     

    I ask as on the web site to shows both the water pipe kits with pipe clips and the alternator kit with bolts. I don't want to get on the phone tomorrow if no one was supplied these parts.

  10. I have to agree. My loom was easy to understand, fitted really well and is about half the price of the GBS. If your using the GBS plenum I used a Ford engine loom to connect things like the injectors, TP sensor and the air control valve, needed a little work and cost me £15 on ebay but is very tidy looking job.

  11. Yes that was the direction I went in as I had a chat with the guys at Omex and they really could not see why you need to have the ECU control that relay. Just make sure that the wire on the live side of the control side of the relay is switched, I can't remember if my one was or I had to connect it to a green switch live that is controlled by the ignition switch.

    I know on on my Omex I had the same problem. If this is the same then the blue wire is not a supply from the main relay but a way for the ECU to switching the relay. As you say pin 86 is an earth pin in the control side of the relay, my Omex ECU controls each part on the system by switching the earth side of the circuit.

     

    I like you have the ECU powered off a green switch live.

  13. I've also got an Omex for my Zero.

    I have to say that I got mine second hand but I needed a few bits and a map to get the engine started. The guys at Omex emailed me a map the same day and got the bits I needed to me the following day. Top service and very knowledgable.

    Sorry it's been one of those weeks at work so I have not had a chance to get the postage price. I will try to get it tomorrow and let you know tomorrow night.

     

    I'm looking forward to getting the Zero on the road as I have been building for over 12 months what with work and the wife it's taken longer than I would have liked. I hope to have her ready to driver up to Stoneleigh. Finger Crossed!
