Sorry, I feel like I'm all take and no give at the moment!

So, took the hood to my long time garage / mot place today for the once over. I always ask him to put my new cars up on the ramp for a look over as I'm always paranoid with a new vehicle! So, the brake lights don't work, which I've traced to the Vemo sierra switch in the pedal box (no biggie, 4 quid of ebay) and there it a bit of play on the top ball joint nearside. The bottom ballpoint is sierra, but what is the top ball joint as it don't look like it's from the donor car.

Anyone, anyone, anyone......anyone? Kudos points for guessing the film reference?

Bang on with Ferris!

Don't know about transit. But it's a good place to start. Don't wanna split it until I'm sure or until it's sorn'd for the refit over winter.

It looks like the standard pivot arms to the suspension tho.

Paranoia kicking in!

I've looked at several brands of Mk1 TraNSIT drag links at a few motor factors and while the overal dimentions are the same, it seems the amount of meat used to manufacture these has diminished over the years:

Old New

Dim. 'A' 14mm 11mm

Dim. 'B' 26mm 21mm

So, seeing as these pretty much support the weight of the front of the whole car, the reduced thickness concerns me.

On the other hand, modern material could be stronger????

Any thoughts on this or am I unduly concerned?

Thanks

Rob

(oh yeah, I could have spelled dimension corectly!!!)

Itll support a fully loaded Transit 2.5 tonne and they do 80+ mph all the time

I suppose I should research what a drag link is......

I assumed that they were a like a tie rod end and not fully load bearing?

if that worries you, don't look at the bottom ball joint!!!

Oh, and when i hit a toyota with my front right wheel at 20mph, my ball joints bent, and not my chassis. Sounds fine to me.
