Who Is A Dipstick?

I have been having a bad day.

 

Whilst all the fun has been going on with the head removal Click Here. I have also managed to loosen the tube that the dipstick sits in In fact it is that lose that the thing now comes cleanly out of the engine block!

 

Has anyone any solutions as to how I can get around this problem as I imagine if I was to run the engine in this state oil would be leaking out of the hole quicker then I could put it back in!

 

As always your help is apreciated.

My understanding is that this is push fit anyway - so put it in and hit softly with a mallet to secure.

Andy, mine is held in with a nice blob of Araldite. The dipstick tube that is, in case Chris A reads this.

The engine builders that re-bored my block said that the dipstick tube should be an interference/push fit, just use something like thread lock to stop it coming loose. Araldite would do it!

I made a new dipstick tube for mine out of some 8mm copper fuel line. Fitted in the hole a treat.

Hi all

 

I had a wobbly one which just wiggled around in a rather sloppy hole, until I stuffed some lock tight in it. Its now tight and firm. This also cured the problem with my dipstick.

I brazed (soft soldered) around the outside dia, then filed it down until it was a "smack with a hammer" fit, it never came out.

Mine still falls out at regular intervals and leaks oil. Must get it sorted!

Same happened to mine. I imagine you have fixed it by now, but if you haven't I suggest you give it a nip in the vice to make it just off-round then push it in and adjust as required
