Whats the best gearbox to mate up to a pinto engine, my westfield has gone and bust the box. went out with the lads last weekend and on the return to southport the box casing split in two, :boohoo: :boohoo: now fitting a standard sierra box. I would like a stronger box, any suggestions.

The mechanic who is fitting the box says there is too much power for a standard one?. any one got a spare decent box for sale.

Cheers

Dave, thats a comment only a westie owner would use  :D  .

Unless you get one from Westfield, the type 9 will do just fine, you have no more power than a lot of Hoodies with twins on and they work just fine.

or even the VX ones with near 180bhp ;)

and that's too much bullsh.e for one of your loo's!!

mt75 is a stronger and "nicer" g/box, but you won't get it in. type 9 is adequate for a plastic canoe. :p

The t5 gearbox is one of the strongest out there. It is fitted to a 2wd sierra cosworth, but is narrower than the normal pinto gearbox. It's a bit longer thought, so you'd need to get your prop shortened. (About 40mm from memory.) The cosworth engine uses the same block as the pinto.

:o :o jim really, wash your mouth out. New box is fitted, just needs the clutch adjusting. He reckons (the mechanic) that the box has twisted on the tail section this has caused the 5 bolts holding the remote tail section to the main box to loosen, this in turn has caused the oil to drain out and knacker the gears cluster!.

It must have happened over the last couple of days as the carpet on the garage floor has no oil drip marks on it. Oh well S**t happens as they say. Thanks for advice. Captn Pugwash ;)

Ps Edited by the new to be Mrs Pugwash!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11111 :o :o

and the ratios are a lot better. i.e. first is 2.9 ish so a lot closer to second. With a lighter car and more power its a very good box to have. However still a lot of money. Cheaper than a Burton close ratio gear set tho.
