Servo

hi

i am putting together the bits for my daughters lightweight.(only plans at the moment) but i do have the engine /box log book and a lightweight kit.

the engine is 2.0 injected pinto with auto box.

the reason for this choice is she has a disability and cannot use a clutch.

the same disability may be a concirn with regards the brakes?

i am toying with servo assisted brakes ,however the lightweight does not lend itsself to the fitting of the sierra servo.

so the question is can i use a remote servo ?

does it have to opperate both front and rear ?

the reason for question 2 is that the only remote servos i have seen are 2 pipe 1 in 1 out.

.

perhaps floor mounted pedals could be mated to the sierra servo?

your thoughts are welcomed

Remote servo is fine to use but i can't answer the 1 pipe in, 1 out issue.

I would ask one of the companies that convert standard vehicles for a variety of disabilities to see what solutions they use.

Many conversions have power brakes, often for hand control systems.

One guy at Stoneliegh had a very neat conversion of an MK with auto box on a CVH with hand throttle and brake, car was complete with wheel chair rack and electric hoist on the roll bar.

Some thoughts on the servo system, as long as the brake test at SVA and later MOT are correctly proportioned then it will be legal, however if your duaghter has some issues with putting enough pressure through the pedal and you have the remote servo only working on the front then rear brake pressure may be very low. Perhaps disc brakes and grippy pads at the rear could redress the balance, or a cleverly set up twin master cylider brake bias system.

The Mobility conversion companies must have to use split braking systems on the current spec vehicles so i am sure there is a solution out there.

Single pipe servo setup

Give these a ring....

Hi,

I have been told by a mate in the Ford KA club, that KA's have a remote servo mounted on the passenger side of the bulkhead. I don't know how true this is but it may be worth checking out at the local scrap yard or on the internet. I presume the KA will be about the same weight as a lightweight so brake performance and bias should not be a problem for the SVA.

On the topic of brake servos!!!

is there a kit that can be brought to recondition or repair them???

if so where from??

Joe

Pick up one from your local scrap yard is the best (cheapest) way of fixing it they go wrong very rarely.

  • 4 weeks later...

re the ka servo

got it off ebay and its been fitted, bracketed from the scuttle roll bar, and the only real mod was to cut the cross tube sleeve it and reweld it in to its new position , thread the push bar and add a clevis pin and sorted .

whils at the scrappy the other day i spotted an escort with an extra part screwed into the 2 rear pipe outlets from the master cylinder, are these presure reducers? about an inch long and male thread one end and female the other to accept the brake pipe, might be handy if they are.

Glad the KA servo worked out. Your right about the pressure valves on the escort. My car failed the SVA for brake bias as the back brakes locked up before the front, so I fitted one of these from a fiesta and it passed no problem. :D
