To Carpet Or Not To Carpet?

Carpet is great when kneeling down to work on the car

 

My solution is to use floor tilers knee pads or you could carpet your knees

if you wear slippers in the garage,then a bit of shag pile is just the job, just dont set fire to it with the old pipe

I use a few old rugs strategically placed around the car. One has an especially thick pile - useful if I fancy a quick nap...

I carpeted mine recently from the old lounge carpet which was replaced by laminate. The hood now has wall to wall carpet to rest its feet on.

Carpet for me - pretty much wall to wall. It was very useful during the build as the car hardly ever went outside and never got wet. Now it's on the road (and two years or more on) it is getting a bit grubby, but surprisingly seems quite dry. It must be this cracking summer eh?

I personally wouldn't carpet my garage, we all spill oil or fuel from time to time and a carpet will soak it up, it only takes a spark to ignite it and you've got a good fire.

 

I've managed to set fire to my old rag pile a couple of times, once with a grinder and once with the welder so the idea of having a carpet in there seems too much of a risk.

 

I use a kneeling mat for the sit down and crawling jobs but keep it (and my rag pile) well out of the way.
