Twin 38s

Hi Dan,

the 38 DGAS is a single carb, but has twin chokes. It is a great carb, but they are rarer than rocking horse poo :D

Very little chance of a Hoody selling one!

Try Ebay but be patient.

The essential clue when looking for one is that the two chokes open together, driven by two toothed quadrants, but otherwise it looks just like a 32/36.

There are two different sizes of Pinto manifolds for Weber carbs. The 32/36 and the 38DGAS have a bigger base plate than ALL the other Webers, eg DFTH, DTLM, etc.

Look in the library for the Haynes WEBER manual which has a good description of each one.

was going to bike carbs but there seems to be to meny issues
I would say it's unrealistic to expect a major change to the engine to be problem free. A 38 DGAS and a set of bike carbs have exactly the same issues. Most new carbs can be supplied with jetting which is in the ballpark and should be driveable. They are not going to arrive perfectly tuned to your engine and they may run badly or not at all if not jetted close to ideal. They will need tuning to the new engine. When did you hear of anyone coming back from a properly done rolling session saying 'That was a waste of money'

You may find a DGAS runs fairly well on a pinto. There is a huge knowledge base. It has been a common swap for years and many tuners know the ballpark jet sizes. Most would still expect you to have it setup on a rolling road.

There is a much smaller knowledge base for bike carb tuning. They are less likely to come jetted right for your engine unless you buy from those with bike carb knowledge such as Bogg Bros.

You would have exactly the same with twin 40 sidedraughts. The issues are the same for all carb changes.

Decide what you want. Choose what you need to achieve it. Do it properly. Don't expect miracles.
