Pinto To Zetec

My pinto is getting tired & they are getting harder to find or they are going for silly money. I'm considering changing to a zetec but not sure what is required. it would be going in my S7 one problem I do see is that the exhaust is on the other side & I don't fancy cutting another hole on the opposite side. is there a header system available to go under the engine.would I need electronic ignition. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks Andy

i keep thinking this myself. One thing to consider though is if you change you will need to buy the engine, clutch, exhaust, electrics, modded sump, altered efi or carbs. Most things ive read on here suggest that it'd be quite expensive up around £1000 +. Start to wonder if it would be cheaper to spend a couple of hundred getting the ol' pinto re-built. Although i would quite like a 16v twin cam siting under the hood.

I think the newer duratecs have the exhaust on the pinto side, but i believe you would need a different bell housing (not sure why).

You'll prob have trouble going under the engine as its pretty low. You could always put a scoop over the old hole. Although one problem is there often seems to be a problem having the inlet on the drivers side as it gets in teh way of the master cylinder. Its never easy <_<

On Ebay at the moment you will find 1800 Zetec's brand new with manifolds and ignition in Fords own wrapping for less than £500 which seems a bargain to me.

Got the chance of a 60,000 mile series 2 silvertop 2 litre zetec complete what else would i require to make it work.

Hi Whiz, best option (in my opinion) would to be look out for a Cat C accident damaged complete car that has the engine in you want. Break the car sympethetically and you should make your money back plus some hopefully. Engine and associated parts are then free.

Just done it with my Sierra donor (almost in profit) and been doing it for years with Landrovers when i needed spares for my offroad racing hobby.

HTH or at leasts puts an idea in your head.

Goodluck, Nick.
