Brake Hose Connection

Recommended Posts

Evening All...

Rite we have been trying to work out how to connect the flexible brake hose through the side of the bodywork.

Now the way i have done it on this side is use a bulkhead connector that goes through the hole and then bolts tight, then the hoses screw onto that.

Now we had to use a couple of sex changing parts but it has ended up like this.....

So my question is i guess, is this ok??? will it be ok for IVA and if not how else could it be done.

Many Thanks as always

On my car I just have the male part of the flexible hose coming through the body and connecting to a female on the inside with washers either side of the body.

Hi Joe,

The M10 x 1 fitting on the end of your flexi is a bulkhead fitting mate.

You shouldn't need all the adapters???

Mine has the flexi pass through a penny washer and the hole in the side panel, then another penny washer and a locknut, then the pipe and flare nut connects straight to the flexi.

Just change the "male" union you have on your copper pipe to a "female".

Nick.

EDIT: Note to self........ type faster. :db:

Ah ah, beat you!

you might have to provide some sort of bracket too, some of the test centres aren't keen on the flexi pipe coming through a side panel and joining to rigid copper without extra support to stop flexing in the copper pipe

I put a couple of large penny washers either side of the side panel as an alternative to the bracket.

Joe,

As above I have used the flexi through the panel with a washer. Copied of some other cars that have passed IVA, but that really depends on the inspector, weather, time of the month, star and moon line up.

Change the inside penny washer to a right-angled bracket with t'other end riveted/screwed to chassis -- both bases now covered. On my 2B I made a curved bracket to hold brake-pipe & give shape/stop flim-flam of side panel.
