just over 7" from timing belt cover to the top side chassis on the nearside

9.5" from timing belt cover to the top chassis rail on the offside

does this look about right ?? it looks straight enough

steve i have it about 6.5 inches high from chassis at the front and it sits pointing slightly down when i put a spirit level on the rocker cover and the oil filter just clears the plough bar but i beleave there is a shorter oil available.

I've had the ruler out on mine and using the centre of the top cam belt cover bolt as a reference point it's 11 3/4 inches to the n/s top chassis rail and 13 inches to the o/s

6 1/2 inches from top of chassis side rails to top of cam cover.

mine looks central at that, but knowing how every 2B differs from every other you're probably best getting it so it looks right to you and work from there.

I chopped the plough tube because although the oil filter just cleared the tube, I couldn't change the filter without unbolting an engine mounting and jacking the engine.

engine mounts are 40mm, any more than that and the o/s mounting arm would have been all wrong, ie sloping down from the mount to the block

mine is almost the same distance as yours steve

i just took the mallet to the offside tunnel to clear the bellhousing

and i can get the aftermarket oil filter off and on while in place

so i have took it back out to laquer the the chassis rail where i cut into it

give the engine mounts a coat of hammerite

and have the engine turned upside down now to modify the oil pick up and fit the big wing sump

just need to try and aquire a clutch cover to go with the flat flywheel i now have.

then need to get a inlet manfiold plate to make the manifold for bike carbs ( think i might just clear the brake master cylinders without mods )

make a alternator bracket

and modify the exhaust manifold

oh yes and get coil drivers soldered into my megasquirt v2.2

after all that i need to get some new

shocks and springs

tyres

timing belt kit

replace all the gaskets

maybe new lifters

water pump

maybe new oil pump

and all this before march/april ???

  • 3 weeks later...

longboarder i have slightly triangulates with weld..

but have now purchased mounts i found on ebay alot lighter probs welded better than mine to lol i may use them.

anyways getting closer

a guy come into work offereing a blue box o tricks with mbe on the side o it for only £150

seems to be to cheap only does ignition and he had on a nova with bike carbs. will see if it happens.

starting to connect alternatore and starter and coolant hoses

it is a vicky green harness i have

the alternator on a pinto has 3 wires the redtop only has 2 ?? any help welcome

my starter cable needs to go to the other side 3 browns togeather and one large black from possitive on battery. can i connect these togeather taking just one thick cable to the other side plus the thin white cable i assume is the ignition cable ??

coolant

i have blanked the back of the head matrix feed as most rwd peeps have

so i have 1 top hose from thermostat going to top o raidator

and i have 1 hose from water pump going to bottom of raidator

what do i do with the 2 hoses on the inlet manifold side ???

i have a heater box not fussed about getting hooked up at the moment but if easier i will use it straight away.

thanks again stuarty

I hate the vicki green loom.A thick brown and a thin brown connect alternator B+ to starter solenoid. Then there is either a large red or black from battery pos to starter solenoid. This route is used by manufacturers if it saves a few inches of heavy copper wire. What is properly happening is B+ should connect direct to battery pos and battery pos should also have a heavy weight cable to the starter solenoid.

I much prefer to connect battery pos, direct to starter solenoid with 40mm2 red cable. Alternator B+ to battery pos with 16mm2 cable. Then add in the earths, black 16mm2, from engine to body and from body to battery neg and a 40mm2 engine to battery negative. Yes thats a lot of cable but it's going to be problem free. Red/white out of VG loom is switching wire for starter. VG lists brown/yellow as being the wire from ignition light to alternator D or 61. As you can see this only gives two wires to the alternator.

thank you i will have a look at what i have and see if that makes sense.

to add to my list i am looking at relocating my battery to the boot and my cut off switch to the dash

the reason is to spread a bit more weight to the back and give a bit more room up front

any pro's or con's ??

regards stuart
