Zero Drum Break Back Plate And Rear Hub Fitting.

Hi all

I've just started my zero build and have got to the point were I am ready to fit the back plate and hub, the problem is the back plate will not fit flat to the hub carrier which in turn stops me bolting up the hub carrier.

Could some one please let me know if assembly needs either spacers or packing out behind the drum back plate. Photos would be very helpful if you have some.

Cheers

Pete

Sounds odd. There should be no problem. Have you got them in the right order. The brake backplate ends up sandwiched between the end of the suspension swing arm and the hub flange. These are flat machined surfaces and the backplate has a flat steel centre. If in the right order and nothing extra dangling in amongst it they should all fit easily.

And if you fit decamber wedges it goes swing arm flange, wedge, backplate, hub flange in that order. The four bolt holes are not in a square so only go on one way.

It's a Zero Nigel, so they rely on spacers to allow the bqckplate to sit flat onto the upright.

Pete, there should be 8 flame cut plates to do this with the kit. Basically 4 a side and jobs a good un.

The back plate will fit 90 deg rotated from how it would fit the Sierra or 2B stlye of kit.

Many an old argument about this on here for you to read.

On mine I binned the spacers and made some 1 piece jobbies and also angled them to correct the rear camber issue I had. Mine was an early kit bear in mind so GBS could of tweaked them to be correct from the factory by now.

Have a browse through my pics and / or blog (links below) for some guidance. There are over 700 pics in my albums so something ought to aid you.

Best regards,

Nick.

Thanks a lot gents. I'd worked out that the back plate had to be turned but I could not work out how to make it fit properly also I couldn't see any spacers in the kit so it confused me a bit. I'll take a look at he other threads on this subject to see what the best way forward is.

Life would be much easier if this thing hand a build manual, but I guess it's all part of the fun!

Cheers
