Hi all I purchased my kit car during it's build but with no v5, it has a 2litre pinto in it, I'm getting towards the end of the build and ready for iva, after it's been iva'd and inspected, it's time to register, but I don't want a q plate, can I buy a sierra so I get the v5 then change the engine on the v5 to the engine in the kit car with the dvla, take all the chasis id off it and get it destroyed after being stripped, so then I have the v5 with the engine number that's in my kit and all other id, could I then take that to dvla and get them to assign that plate to my car.

Thanks

Remember you only have to use 2 major components from the donor vehicle for example - gearbox, diff and rear axles. The engine could have come from another source eg. scrapyard or purchased from a club member.

as far as i am aware you can change the engine on the sierra v5. DVLA may want proof that the engine has indeed been put into said vehicle but that isn't a problem if you buy a pinto'd sierra as you could swap it in a morning. prove it is all running etc take a video/photos and then tell dvla you have swapped the engine. It doesn't matter what you do after that.

This would be no different to me swapping the engine on any car. just have to have proof it has been done and inform DVLA.

I don't know about 'if you can not prove you purchased the kit from manufacture you get a q plate' maybe talk to GBS if this is the case and see what they say, they might do some sort of reciept or something. Or do you have the original reciept off the person you bought the kit off.

I thought as long as you used enough of the single donor then you would get the age-related plate? Didn't know about the chassis having to be bought from manufacturer? You could try DVLA although depends which way the wind is blowing as to what answer you'll get

I have the original receipt from manufacture when I bought the car off previous person, it has the pinto engine, siera box, diff, brakes, so will that be enough for me to avoid the q plate, what do I do about sourcing a v5 don't really want to have to take my engine out etc

Thanks
