Pinto Engine Number

Just filling out the IVA paperwork, all ok except when I get to the engine number. Stamped on the block under the exhaust manifold I have a 10 character code starting 85, however the log book has a 7 character code starting JS. This code also matches the end of the donor vin.

I've looked all over for the JS code but cannot find it on the block, so, where should it be? Would it be really obvious?!

I believe the 10 character code is the cast number. I'm happy to note down the JS code on the IVA paperwork but unsure how I can prove it if asked.

Thanks

Aidan

Hi Aidan,

Yes your Pinto engine number is a 7 digit one.

The donor VIN includes the original engine number as the last 7 digits (Ford did/do this) The JS code suggests the engine from the donor was made in November1988.

I used this to prove my engine date at IVA:

Hope this helps.

The 10 number starting 85 is a casting number not a stamped engine number

I think your looking in the wrong place

May also be painted over, rusty of faint
